I think I found something that describes removal of this connector in some detail. I frankly thought I have already tried this without success but I try this again with more confidence. See the installation video from Banks Derringer video starting at the 1:30 mark.

 

Well... This seems straight forward. I have never had this much trouble with a connector. My connector will not budge despite following the instructions in the video. This is not a serious issue at this time, since my MAP sensor is working ok but I would like to be able to be confident I could change this out since this is a known problem item.

I plan to call S&B this coming week to see if they have any experience dealing with this.

I appreciate your reply. I think I've done that but obviously I'm missing something. I've even tried squeezing the gray locking piece with a pair of small channel like pliers while wiggling. For whatever reason the gray piece barely moves when being squeezed. before I break it I'm at least going to be calling s&b to see if they have any other experience with similar problems.

 

I did find this video that makes it look easy to remove the connector. There seem to be a purple metal piece that is keeping the release from moving on my unit. I have about decided that if and when I actually need to replace the sensor I will just cut off the release mechanism with a dremel tool and secure the replacement with a nylon tie strap. Very odd indeed.

Be careful. That alteration may void any warranty repairs.

 

Those style connector can be a real bear to release, lots of locations that type are used. Push the grey connector position assurance tab out like you had it and you’re supposed to be able to squeeze it down and release it. Often I need to put a thin pick or pocket screwdriver gently in the mating side to lift the internal tab.

 

Thanks Rob1 - I have tried all of those tricks. For the moment, I just received the MAP relocate kit so I plan to install that without disconnecting the sensor harness.

Just a theory but my connector has what looks like a metal piece pictured below that may be blocking me from being able to release the connector after sliding out the grey connector. Curious if anyone else sees that piece on their connectors.

 

Are you sure it’s metal? The pink paint on it makes it look like it’s part of the plastic connector. Lots of times there’s paint like that on connectors. To me it looks plastic, and to be part of the connector body, that would be how far the grey part slides out before it can be detached

 

I am not sure at all. It feels very solid for the size. It would be interesting to see if that feature is found on anyone else's L5P engine MAP sensor connector. This has been a strange finding.

 

In case you still haven't removed it, push the connectors together slightly as you release the tab lock, then pull apart.

 

That does make a lot of sense. I believe I've tried that but when I get a chance I'll give it another attempt. This has been pretty odd. It's working okay so it's not really that big deal right now but still I'd like to figure it out.

 

I left the sensor bolted in THEN undid the tab to un fasten the connector. Took a lot of force to make it finally come off. A warm engine might be easier. Can’t believe how much soot and BS is on my sensor. $21 bucks for a new GM one on Amazon FYI
