Hello gentlemen, Yesterday I got my first duramax. No more spying on this sight. I only dreamed to have one for 5 years or more. I was finally able to afford one but had to settle for a light flood, but otherwise it's all I ever dreamed of....LBZ, Paddle shifter, leather etc.... I need to mention that I knew it was a flooded truck but the pictures looked really clean(insurance auction) and I just felt like rolling the dice. I didn't even know the milage but it turned out to be 40k. Anyway after pushing it into to shop I got started. Batteries were stone dead and the dealer wouldn't warranty them which seemed pretty crappy since they were something like 7 year batteries but the dealer said they are only covered for the warranty of the truck( I failed to tell them the status of the truck ha ha).
So 2 new batteries, checked the fluids. The rear diff oil was clean, the trans, front diff, transfer case and engine all had SOME water mixed...not alot but changed them all.
Now the moment of truth.....Would my biggest fear come to fruition? Was the engine screaming when the jackass hit the drink? Apparently not. It ran for 5 sec then shut off. After using the little priming pump for 15 minutes I finally got the water out of the fuel tank and I restarted. It sort of steamed for awile then after 5 min ran smooth.
I let it run for about a half hour while I checked out the interior. Everything works except the speakers(bose) have no sound(radio indicates as it should), the seats don't motor straight forward and backward (they do tilt lumbar etc). The heaters also don't light up or heat. The inside is vitually spotless with no odor or even a sign of being wet..????
So i decided to go around the block. Everything seemed normal until I shifted to drive. I noticed the shift indicator lights went out so I shut the truck off thinking something might reset. No dice it wouldn't even crank!!!!
I fiddled around a little more with it today and finally got it to restart AFTER the shift indicator lights(little yellow lights below PRNDM1) came back on. So I drove it back into the barn and it hasn't ran since. It seems no shft indicate lights no start. I also noticed that the shifter is free to move out of park without applying the brake. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I've been told possible a neutral something or other sensor on the side of the trans but I'm new to the Dmax world.Tomarrow a buddy is bringing his scan tool (hope I don't fry it).
I know alot of you probably think I'm nuts and maybe I am but it sure is a sweet truck for the money besides I have a tendency to run vehicles into the ground so resale means jack. Does this sound like a ECM or TCM??????
BTW everthing is stock. Anyway I know you guys don't owe me anything being that I'm new to this forum But thank you to whoever responds.
