I have a crack in my radiator, so I started changing it today. The replacement radiator from amazon is totally wrong, so I am working on returning it. (Fitment guide said it fit)
In looking at the replacements, it seems most of them are 1 1/4" thick. This is about 1" narrower than my radiator, but all the other measurements and hoses seem to fit.
Sample replacement radiator:
New Radiator For Chevy Suburban 2500 Avalanche 2500 GMC Yukon XL 2500 8.1 V8 | eBay
I found that Rock Auto lists a radiator here with the caption:
"NEW RADIATOR HAS REDUCED CORE THICKNESS FROM 54.5MM TO 34M"
2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 8.1L V8 Radiator | RockAuto
54.5mm to 34mm is about right measurement wise for the replacement radiators at 1 1/4" and mine at 2 1/4".
Does anyone know if this was done in all 8.1 Yukoburbans from 2001 to 2002? I do a lot of high altitude towing and the size decrease concerns me. I have never had the motor get hot and would hate to start now. Does anyone know the thickness of their radiator core?
