It is kind of off subject but I need help. I had a nice blowout over the weekend and when it peeled it grabbed some wiring that goes to the fridge and ripped it out. Does anyone know anyone in the KCMO area that does side work/repairs on RV? The dealers of course want to rip me off

if you have full coverage insurance on the rv, your ins co will fix it less your deductible...

Hi 05longbed,

Sorry to hear of your RV damage. That SUCKS !!

Which dealers have you approached and what $$ have they quoted you for the repairs ??

As txdutt says, if you're insured - you should be OK - excluding the deductable.

Is this something you can't tackle yourself ??

I live in Liberty so there are not many dealers close to me. Liberty RV is a hose job since their nearest comp is in Holt, which I use more. When the blowout happened it ripped speaker wires, tv/cable wires, telephone, and the fridge power wire. I have fixed the others since it broke them in half and I have spliced them together. The fridge wire was ripped out internally or something and I am just not sure on fixing that. Right now I am just getting estimates on the fridge work which shouldnt be that much but Liberty RV gave me a bunch of crap like they would just have to go by the hour to even see if the wire is from the fridge. It is obvious since the fridge is the only thing not working and if you open up the exterior cover you can see the same type of wire there, so mainly they are idiots just trying to make money off of me. If the cheapest bill I get is still high then I will explore the idea of insurance but so far it looks around a $1000 fix which isnt worth the $500 deductable. If I cant get anyone to do it cheaper I might just try to figure out how to yank the fridge out myself, Im just not sure on that part yet, but it shouldnt be to hard.

Google your trailer brand and look for a users group. Go there, tell them what year and model trailer you have and I bet someone will be able to tell you exactly how to remove the fridge.

Fridges can be more than just wiring causing the problem. You have interlocks so that you only use gas, not 120V. I am assuming that you are talking a 2 way fridge, not a 3 way, or the opportunity goes way up if the Cardinal is what you are referring to.

It doesn't work on either gas or on AC?

I also would look at a used replacement fridge unit, which if you talk nice to the repair shop, they probably have a half dozen in the stockroom...I know the dealership I used to work for kept a lot of stripped out RV parts (often wonder how many times they replaced a part with a used part, but charged new...). Most stuff on RVs are pretty cheaply assembled, and are a nightmare to fix after the sides and walls get put on.

This is a log shot but down here is a guy who advertises on Craigslift and is a mobile RV repair service. You could try that.

It is in my Cardinal. I cant get any power to the fridge in 12v with gas or 120AC. He wire hanging is the same as the one I see if I open the exterior access panel. It broke the wire somewhere in the wall or behind the fridge from what I can tell. All I need is it fixed cheap as possible

If you lose 12v to the fridge, nothing else will work, ie..a/c or gas. Where is the fuse panel? Don't spend alot of time on it! If you are sure the fridge is the only thing not working, just pull a new wire of the same size from the fridge to the fuse panel and hook the wire in place of the old one. Make sure the ground wire has continuity to ground and your good to go. Make sure its unplugged from shore power and the battery is disconnected. If you have more questions...fire away!

They need to build them better, I blew a right rear tire and ripped the copper propane lines loose going to the fridge and the oven but it missed the heater. Oh well, the fridge hasn't worked off propane since we got it, the board has a problem and it won't open the solenoid

Just remember, the better they are built, the more expensive and heavier they get! What is the model # of the fridge, I will be on the "lookout" for a board;)

I can only test my AC with 120v at home and I could get the fan to work on it so it seems as it would work just fine. I might have to check the 12v fuse for the fridge to see if it blew for some reason when it ripped the wires. Everything else on the slide with 110v power to it works (tv, coffemaker, etc). I couldnt get the power light to turn on when I had it pluged in and the battery turned on so it seems there is no power to the fridge.

Fridge 12 volt

Hello:
Post from # 10 is correct, all newer RV's have a 12 volt module in each device this is why you do not have to go around and light pilots anymore. So if there is no 12 volts it will not work on gas or electric. This applies to fridge/hot water/ furnace. Thats why if you store your RV for anymore than a few days the battery goes dead, you must disconnect it.
So just check for 12 volts in the fridge panel on back and if its not there, run another wire.
