Hi All,

I enjoy the nice quiet in my cab, but would like to get a 4" exhaust. Anyone know which one is the quietest?

I would also find that interesting. Quiet and BIG!

You get a Magnaflow system less the muffler and upgrade to their 36" diesel muffler. Most aftermarket mufflers that come with kits are between 20" and 30" long over all. Magnaflow sells the longest 4" in and out mufflers that I can find. They have an over all of 36" and a muffler length of 30". To the best of my knowledge they are the quietest because they are the longest. They are not sold in kits only as a seperate muffler. Thats why you have to buy them seperate. John

I have the TTS exhaust from the cat flange back and i'll tell you it is pretty darn quiet. At 70 mph you don't even know the exhaust has been changed. Towing it is a different story, you know it's there but is not loud just throaty. None of my customer nor my wife have had anything to say about the exhaust noise. My truck doesn't have a cat but went with the cat back system because i think it is Steve at TTS told me he saw not power or ET increase replaceing the front pipe plus it saved me about 100 dollars. I think the muffler is 38" long, can confirm. I would buy the TTS again if i had the chance. The only thing i would change is i wish TTS would weld the hangers to the pipe and make the exhaust pipe exit a little higher, more closer to stock. I can get you a pictures if you would like to see installed.

Yeah lets see some pics if you don’t mind BhamDmax. I was wondering the same thing, it doesn’t have to sound stock - a little louder would actually be cool but I just want to be able to talk while towing or let passengers sleep.

smshiver,

We have been doing some experimenting with the MBRP systems we sell and a resonator that mounts way up front on the systems. From the info we have gotten back from customers that are trying it it gets the sound level at or below stock when cruising and has no added back pressure to push EGT's up at all.

I added 3 3/4x48" bars to the pipe before the muffler on Friday. It's too early to tell if that helped quiet it down or not. So far, I don't think it was enough weight. I am considering the resonator option as well.

Mark, are you going to sell just a resonator? Is it SS? All the ones I have found so far have been regular steel.

I honestly don't think the banks exhaust is that loud. Then again, I'm basing off of the stock exhaust, and my "other" truck which is a built 396 with headers and straight pipes out the back.

The banks is not loud in the cab. It's noticable but not annoying, and it's only "loud" if you romp on it. You can tell you have some nuts..and bolts under the hood with any of them.

I agree! I'm very happy with the Banks exhaust. It fit perfect. I installed mine in about an hour and a half and it's got a nice sound to it. Not loud at all...

Hog Performance with their "Augmenter" muffler (not the standard) is very quiet. All 304 stainless, includes ss band clamps, and ss polished tip.

I had their standard muffler at first and it was way too loud, especially pulling a trailer. Now with the "augmenter" it's near stock sounding until the revs get close to 3k.

I think this is the ss diesel exhaust Jegs sells, but it doesn't come with the quiet muffler. Mid $500 for the whole thing.

Banks has a real nice sound when you get on it, running down the road you can't tell from stock. Just towed to Maine last week, nice mellow sound while towing.

Hey Denial, do you have the 24 or the 30? The price for just the muffler wasn't too bad.

I have had the Banks Monster exhaust on my truck for over a year. Of course it is louder than stock but it sound good and is quiet at 70 mph going down the road.

I am unable to identify any improvement in economy or performance that would warrant the cost....

If I had it to do over again I would keep my $800 to spend on something else.

Just my opinion!

I have the monster exhaust also. I find it a bit droney around town but love the tone on the highway. Biggest benefit is lower egt's.

IIRC Banks uses a diff muffler since oct of last yr ~ haven't experience any drone so far. Catback $480 to my door w/tip. Lower egts ~ which was what I wanted w/o increasing noise.

shumdit,
where did you get your Banks kit from and are you EGR or NON-EGR?
its the 4" monster kit i assume. I cant find it for under $600.

Big ~ uncertain if it would be violating his advertised pricing agreement w/Banks but chk my PM.

Uncertain of EGRs relative to exhaust system but yes, mine is an 02 w/CA emission. As stated, it is a CAT back system ~ thinking maybe changing to a non CAT oem 3.5" takeoff that I've someday bye & bye. Some manufacturers, after testing the performance diffs of 3.5 & 4" front pipes don't bother to produce them. Figure $110 ~ $130 more for just that one pipe and make your decision.
