first of all what exactly is the difference between a lift pump and cp3 im not exactly sure. is a lift pump added or stock? what would be the best thing to do as an upgrade? lift pump, new cp3, dual cp3?

A lift pump, is what you would have more or less on a gas engine. Just pumps from the tank to the injection pump. Dmax's do not have one stock. Good add on though.
The CP3 is the injection pump.
The first thing I would do is add a lift pump, you will need it for dual CP3's if you do go that route.

thanx for the clarification. thats kinda what i thought but wasnt sure. any suggestions on what to get?

The lift pump feeds the injection pump, so without a lift pump you can't maintain fuel for hotter tunes. Let alone dual pumps...
Most lift pumps have filtration solutions built in too. Much easier than underhood filters.

PPE is cheap and works, they do tend to fail after a while though. If I had to do it over again i would probably spend a little more and get a Raptor. Alot of guys like the Airdog and Fass setups with all of the extra filtration, but I don't feel like buying any more filters.

I will add here,
I am going to add an air dog probably an air dog II to mine. Don't really have anything done, what's in my sig. Just want the lift pump so the injection pump dosen't work as hard, and the extra fuel water seperator, and filter. You will be able to run your stock filter longer, and you will have cleaner fuel at the engine.
Other then to support the power, buy pushing more fuel, that is why you want a lift pump/extra filters.

The airdog II is real easy to install

the CP3 pump does have a mechanical lift pump attached, just it is small and works hard to pull from tank. there is mod to porting this lift pump to improve operation. electric lift pump back at tank to feed CP3 fuel pump would be best. one benefit of moving more fuel, even if just returning to tank is that FICM(fuel injector control module) should run cooler from additional flow.

Interesting you say that. I thought that the CP3 created a vaccume from the tank to draw the fuel up to the pump but I could be wrong.

Kennedy Diesel also has a really nice liftpump setup IMO.

Yes the fuel system is in a slight vacuum from the tank to cp3 pump. Add a lift pump then it be in slight vacuum to the lift pump and then be pressurized from there to the cp3 pump.

The added pressure doesn't harm the CP3? I've very new to the dmax, so please bear with me. On my old 6.5 i needed to get a LP that wouldnt push more than 10-14 psi otherwise it would wreck the IP... even if the CP3 was designed for slight vacuum it can handle a huge amount of volume and pressure from a FASS or Airdog?

No a slight amount of pressure is actually good for it. The added pressure makes sure the adaquate amount of fuel is supplied to the cp3 for proper cooling and lubercation. From what I've heard 18psi is the max you would want to go because any psi beyond that will cause a lope to occur. The added fuel also helps the cp3 because its not starving for fuel under serious demands or loads.
