If you've ever priced heat shield sleeves then you know how expensive they can be. Im going to show you how I make my own for just a few cents. First you will need these materials, fiberglass matt, found in the body and paint section of most auto parts stores. A pair of utility scissors, roll of sticky on one side foil tape like they use in heating and cooling, I get mine at Wal-Mart, and then some sort of round form like an old hose, cardboard paper towel roll, etc. First take your form and wrap it with the foil tape, stickey side out. Once that's done, take and lay the roll on the fiberglass Matt and roll it up to as many layers as you would like, the thicker it is, the more insulating property it has. Now take and cut your matt off and trim ends as needed. Then start your foil tape at an angle and start rolling it on top of the matt sticky side down, let it go over the ends just a little so you can tuck it inside the lip.
Another way for smaller hoses and wires is to lay your tape out length wise along your form and wrap it around that way and then roll up in your matt the same as before.
