The glow plugs actually stay on after the light goes out. If you watch the volt meter, it will jump up when the glow plugs shut off.

Actually after glow plug light goes out, glow plugs are still heating and there is an intake heater grid under the engine cover, then the voltmeter comes up. My rule is the truck doesn't move until voltmeter comes up.

 

The glow plugs only stay on for a few seconds. With your head under the hood you can hear everything shut off. The 30 second time delay is to protect the alternator. Later! Frank
