I have a 07 LBZ that is efi tuned and straight piped. I got a notice in the mail that I have to smog here very soon. I have heard many diffrent stories of how the test is performed. I plan on pulling out my tune and putting my cat and muffler back on but I was told the other day that when they hook the truck up to there computer,If there is a "thumbprint" on the computer from a tuner, The state will deny registration! Is there any truth to this? Sorry if this is a newbie question couldnt fine any answers in the search. Thanks

I read the other day that they just make sure the factory exhaust is there and rev the motor 3 times to make sure no smoke comes out and thats really it. I dont think they even hook up a scanner but I dont live in communistfornia.

Just had it done. they hook a scanner up to the OBD II port but I think it's just to check for codes. if you're popping a code, it'll fail. If you have any aftermarket stuff on there that affects the emissions, it needs a CARB certificate for the parts. I don't think they look for traces of a tuner but I'm not positive. If the tuner is there, they'll want the CARB cert.

Besides the scanner, they look for aftermarket parts, especially the cat. They run it for a little while and rev it up a few times to look for smoke. It's pretty quick. Both my trucks were stock, so I didn't have any issues.

Put it back to stock tune. If GM can't tell it has had a tune how can they? The LBZ ECM doesn't leave a trace of old tunes.

On mine they scanned for error codes, looked for the Kitty and did the opacity test. WOT for acouple of seconds in park.

Defense take the tune out asrhe smoke you get from tuning will get you failed for the opacity test

Had mine done a few months back. Put it back to stock then removed the tuner, left the after market air box along with the finger stick & blocker plate. put the cat back on. They hook it up to see if any codes are shown. All the rest is just a visable inspection. The tech told me he had to look at the motor for a minumum of 90 seconds. JUst another BS way for the state to get some more $$$$$. 10 minutes max.

I had mine smogged last year, they did not plug into the OBD2 port, just did visual under the hood and for the cat, and pulled the CARB number for my intake (S&B) and then rev'd it a few times to check for smoke. 10 min quick test.

Just did two trucks LLY and LBZ both tuned with efi live. I did not take the tunes out but put the cat only on both of them with no muffler. I did need the carb sticker for the banks ram air on the LLY. They told me that they plug into the obdII for codes and vin check with DMV thats it. He told me they have no way of knowing if the truck has been tuned but if you have a moniter (i.e. Edge w/attitude or something) they would also need a carb sticker, But if nothing is visual they cant find it.

I just had mine smogged. He checked for a CAT, plugged it in to OBD, I waited 10 minutes and good to go.

I left my tune and had the EGR blocked. He was looking for CAT and CEL.

The Province of Ontario is exactly like this...I pulled in - buddy does squat but grab my vin and enters it into a computer - he did not look at a damned thing.... I wait 7.5 minutes and out spits a sheet that said Passed, passed, passed etc.

..................... that'll be $39.95 pls sir.! Uhuh.

Damned right its all about MONEY and SQUAt about pollution/environment etc. Just another Socialist make work program. Something that moron Obama would love.

I divorced the PRG when I joined the Air Force but if I still lived there I'd get a spare LBZ ECM (PN 12606126) to install before each smog check (probably a good thing to have on hand anyway in case a bad tune causes it to crash). GM Parts Direct sells them for $336 plus $125 core charge. Amazon.com sells them for $388 but with no core charge. Don't know if there's a difference between the Federal ECM and the CA ECM.

I live in Fresno ca. I've had my 2007.5 for almost 5 years now. I've smogged it 3 times already. Straight piped with a ppe hot+2 programmer and cat delete, other than that, it's stock. When I smog, I just go in, he hooks it up, and a few minutes later, it passes. He did say the sensor for the cat isn't registering but my model can have 2 or 3 sensors (cant remember), not registering and still pass as long as there is no CEL on the dash. He did show me the ARB bulliten for it but I didn't even think to note it for future reference. If someone one here knows what I'm taking about, please post this bulliten number for the rest of us. From my understanding this is why certain years of trucks are highly sought after and demand a higher price.
