Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low

I purchased a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD with a 6.6 Duramax LB7 and as luck would have it the truck had no power and check engine light came on the way home. So I stopped at Autozone and checked the codes and came up with the following:

P0087
P0540
P1093
P1094

After going through the stickys I have realized that there is probably issues with the Filter or maybe the fuel pressure sensor is not reading. The truck is fueling black smoke on heavy throttle and does not surge or any fluctuation in RPM at idle. I have not touched a thing on this truck but will start with the Fuel Filter as the easiest most obvious probable culprit.

Any suggestions other than that?

It could be a filter, or a sensor but probably injectors. Mine started with just the 1093, then eventually the 1094 showed up with hard to start symptoms along with haze at idle. Start with a new filter, but Im guessing its injector related.

So I replaced the fuel filter and now we have no more codes! Sweet! But I still have no boost so that is next on my list. Not sure where to start on that one.

Glad the filter took care of that issue, always pays to start with the simple stuff.

Things to check regarding low/no boost: verify wastegate is not stuck in the open position, verify that all the rubber hoses running to the wastegate are in good working order with no holes or weathercheck, Verify all clamped connections on the intercooler and turbo are there and snug, and inspect boost tube running from turbo to intercooler.

The rub through of the hot side boost tube is common, check very closely where this tube runs between the power steering lines and the left frame rail of the truck. Its best if you remove the front drivers side inner fender well, you may not be able to even see it so run your fingers all along any part of the tube in close proximity to other tubing/piping.

Ok so have had it on a friends Scanner and it was getting boost and showing a drop in rail pressure when the demand increased. Thats when the black smoke started. Even then it showed boost levels getting from 28-36 pounds. No white or blue smoke only black. Solid smooth idle and low power upon throttle demand. I have yet to go and look for boost leaks but with the scanner showing boost would it still register if it had a leak by the power steering hose?

Black smoke equals unburned fuel, have you checked your air cleaner? Check all connections to innercooler and check for rub through. Checking boost with a scan tool can be misleading because you are not seeing actual numbers, there is an offset for station pressure. Check turbo waste gate linkage to make sure it isn't seized.

Checked air filter...a bit dirty but not that bad. Checked by intercooler for rub through. Worn but not through yet. Going to have to fix that one soon. How do i check to see if wastegate is stuck open?

Read some more online and know that I won't be able to move wastegate with hands. Tried to get open wrench to move but not enough clearance. Still don't know if waste gate is working or not. Don't have air compressor so I cant make that one work to test. Can a fuel pressure relief valve cause no boost?

At 36psi boost, minus 15 for atmospheric pressure, that puts you at a solid 21psi. It is not likely that you have a boost issue. The factory sensor/computer/tuning combo maxes at 20-22psi. How many miles are on this truck and do you know the history on it's injectors?

Miles are 258k. No history on injectors. Idle is dead smooth and no surges. Makes power at low speed and drives normal until acceleration then rail pressure drops and it spews black smoke and is a pig. If I do that long enough it trips the code. I believe at this point the problem is pointing to the Inj Pump and possible fuel pressure regulator.
