Sounds like the bumpstop. Should be able to get a new one @ the dealer.

 

X2. Bumpstop indeed. should be able to avoid the dealer for that one try checking around and keep in mind how much the dealer over charges.

 

I replaced my shocks last night. When installing the front shocks, I noticed that the rubber/foam piece is deteriorating and coming apart.

Does someone know what this part is called? Is it straight forward to replace?

I've seen several of NorCal Nick's pictures, and it's typically a rusty red color. A few others have been yellow.

If you have any lift or T-bar crank, and Bilsteins, you probably don't need them. I took mine off. Rides great.

 

No lift or T-bar crank here, just stock everything with new Bilsteins. The bottom corners of both of them are worn through though. I think I drove around on my worn out stock suspension for far too long.

 

They are known to start to deteriorate after 5 years or so. I would replace them, however, because while they might not touch while you're looking at them, they help soften the ride and prevent a clank when you go over the bigger bumps on the highway and whatnot. I got a set a year or so ago to put on a buddy's truck and paid the dealer less than $40 - not too bad, and they install in 10 minutes. And they come with hardware...
