Draining water at fuel filter

First diesel fellas.
I checked the fuel filter for water today (1st time) just because the manual says I should not because my WIF said so and did not get any.
Now was there in fact no water or did I not loosen the bottom drain enough (2 turns).

Should I have gotten fuel from the drain valve?
Truck was not running.

Because the system is a vacuum system, and because of a really rather poor design of the WIF sensor don't expect the system to operate or protect you from water. If you loosen/remove the vent screw and open the filter drain tap a couple of turns you might get a couple of drops of fuel out of it. The WIF base has "pockets" in it that are not accessed by the filter drain. The water float that trips the warning light is unreliable at best - people with serious water in fuel issues have reported no light. I use a quality fuel additive in every tank of fuel and use the WIF just as a plug in the bottom hole of the filter.
