Disapointed performance first test drive

Test drove an 11 dmax 2500 C.C. about a mouth ago and had higher expectation for performance. This is my 3rd duramax now 2004.5 LLY, 2007 LBZ, and now it just bought 2011 LML. LBZ has an edge programer on it, and kind of though the new one would be about the same as the older one with a mild setting. Doesnt even seem to be close to the power of the LBZ. Havent towed with the new one yet, mabey i'll be able to feel the extra torque with some weight behind it. But no wheel spin kind of power like the older one has.

No programer on new truck, but yes I do have an Edge programer on the LBZ. The LBZ is alot louder when you get your foot in it ( and of couse black smoke ). Have watched some you tube videos on the tuner(s) out for the LML - think I'll wait, not that happy with what I saw. And yes I know about the traction control and 6 sec. hold to get rid or the stabilizer control stuff. Again I have not towed with the new truck yet. Just talking empty truck performance.

My LML is 2 full seconds quicker 0-60 than my LMM is with a quad stealth 2 on 75hp and a DPF delete

It is the throttle mapping that is fooling you, put a stop watch on it IMO

It will also hold a load in 5th on a grade miles further than the LMM or LBZ, and better than that, it might save your life breaking down the other side

Exactly what he said! The throttle mapping will take some getting used to. It takes more throttle to get the truck moving. The older trucks will feel faster because the throttles are so sensitive compared to the LML. Put a trailer behind it, and let us know what you think! It's, by far, the best pulling truck I've owned, and I've had every generation of Dmax.

2 things...........throttle mapping, and torque management......

I agree throttle mapping. But I really like this over the older trucks. This truck can be driven as smoothly as anything I've ever driven. That pays beniffits in fuel mileage. Just takes a little getting used to. And it really moves when the feeling comes over me.

I drove one today and it hauls the mail for a stock truck. It feels as fast as my lmm with a 60hp tow tune

To the OP I know exactly what you mean. I was soo excited when the new Denali came out and went to go buy one. Needless to say I couldn't wait to get back into my current truck after the test drive. :D was back on my face when I left the dealership with my current truck and rolled into the throttle breaking the 35's loose through 4th gear.

so u test drove it and didnt like it? but u bought it? or u didnt? i cant understand ur post no offense.

The LML is very slow in first gear. I can't get any tire spin even with that traction control completely shut off. However, once you get into 2nd, 3rd, etc. ... this thing hauls ass. It feels like a big ship powered by huge rockets. On ramps are something to look forward to.

Still, I have a feeling Chevy decreased the boost in 1st gear.

Tell me more about 'pushing the button for 6 seconds'???

I'm bone stock, just over 1,200 miles now...

With teh TC off, mine breaks the tires loose mid-way through 1st gear and if I don't lift it will keep the tire noise up through the first half of 3rd gear... I have the all season radials, prolly makes a difference...

I had new truck fever really bad until I drove my father-in-law's CCLB 2500HD LML. Of all the talk on here about the LML being so much more powerful than the pervious d-maxs and the tests against Ford I was very disappointed in the power. It's not that the power is not there. It's there. It's just not earth shattering as it's some times made out to be. After the drive I got out, said to myself, $65k for this? New truck fever cured.

I drove my first LML dually last september and as very impressed for a stock truck. I have a 600hp LB7,a 450hp or so LB7,and a 425-450hp Kodiak and it was still very impressive. I'd buy one if I had more cash right now for a daily driver.

I thought my LMM was powerful until I got the LML...
Either you drove a dog or you were totally flummoxed by the new throttle map...
Go back for another test drive, turn off the Stabiltrak, and punch it...

I agree my new LML is a very powerful stock truck and I'm a GMC fan though and though. As I wrote earlier this is my 3rd dmax now LLY, LBZ,and now LML. Both older trucks where chipped and then some from new so I have never really drove a "stock" Dmax till this new one. I have a lot of respect for the claims that Edge Evolution puts on the LBZ. I've gotten very low 6's 0-60mph. Using the edge timer ( not counting in my head...lol ) I havent timed the LML but I read somewhere its 8 or 9 sec. 0-60mph. But thats not why I bought it anyways. I bought it to tow with just like the other ones. I love my new black smoke free LML and am very happy with it.

i'm a little disappointed to as it just doesn't seem to have the power i expected. Maybe its all the sales hype and were all just expecting to much. Truck does pull strong though just doesn't seem much more than the older ones to me. Definitely have to put your foot in it more to get similar performance. My main beef is the fuel mileage sucks as everyone was telling my i would see 20 plus on the highway but can't get even close empty. Oh well still like my truck though just not exactly as i expected.

Pedal calibration is different. I believe this was intentional to make it easier to drive the truck smoothly. I notice this the most when running unloaded in 'local' traffic situations.

My '11 is definitely more powerful than the '10 (and the '10 was no slouch either). It is most noticeable when running at hwy speed, either empty or pulling a trailer.

I think the new pedal is fooling everyone. My LBZ pedal with the Predator all you needed to push the pedal was about 2" and she was rolling. The LML you really have to lean on the pedal, but the power is there. I dont think that the stock LML is too far off my LBZ with a 85hp Predator tune just by seat of the pants. You really do have to lean on the LMLs pedal to get it pulling hard.

x2. My LML feels exactly the same as my LMM did that had a DPF-delete and the Edge Evo Race on the level 2 tow tune(+55).

I have noticed my lml acts like it has turbo lag but it might be you really need to get into the pedal. When you do it is stout. I think it is similar to my lmm that had the edge on 60 and 4 inch mbrp. Nice to have and keep your warrantee. Biggest thing I dont like is that the metal is so thin. I was putting the B&W hitch under bed and my dad was in the bed. One piece you put on frame rail and roll over so it is facing the right way. With dad in the bed I could not roll piece over. He got out, it moved right away. Bed must have been sagging!
