i was reading someones signature, and noticed it said "intake butterfly valve removed" and was wondering what the heck a butterfly valve was doing in the intake of a diesel engine. i did some searching and one post that come up said its for warming up the cold engine(makes the engine strain and heat up faster) and another post (only 2 search results come up) told me the valve was for raising EGT's for regens. so which one is right if not both, and are there any other factory or aftermarket uses for this valve? just curious.

oh and in the LML comercial video thing where it shows the truck coming apart to show the engine and such, you can see a butterfly valve in the intake on that engine too.

Only thing I heard about it was to do with warming up the truck? Never knew of any performance gains. Chris
