So a bullydog set on extreme is too much for an aftermarket converter and otherwise stock trans with the transgo valves in it(that is what you are running right, converter and trimvalves and thats it?)

Yeah thats what ive got

I don't understand why not. There are guys running converter/transgo combo with stock clutches that do okay with more power than the power pup on extreme puts out.
They are running more power with the full Transgo kit and converter in the LB7 and LLY with the 5-Speed Ally. There's a lot more to it than just trim valves.

All I'm saying is if it were me I would run it till the clutches really needed to be replaced. I don't see the point in changing the clutches until they have to be replaced. I know IdahoRob is running a transgo/converter on stock clutches. If his trans can survive 12.6 or whatever he ran, I think a 6spd with transgo trim valves and a converter could handle the power pup on extreme. I can understand doing a major upgrade on a 5spd, since you have to go into to do the transgo, but on the 6spd there is no reason to break open the trans to install the transgo so what's the point? If you run it and it starts limping all over the place then I can see going a SC III or IV, but, until that time comes, why not run it and see what it will hold.

Just my 2¢

At stock power levels the C3's with the LBz motor shows signs of heat according to Mike L. Maybe that trans will still last 200K miles but it wears the C3's more than the stock 5 speed does. I think limping the 6 speed will be easier than the 5 speed was. You should consider a trans fund and be ready when you start to limp it. With the BullyDog set to extreme it will happen pretty fast IMHO unless you drive it like a granny. I do agree why upgrade the trans unless you are limping it. I limped mine before getting my SCIV.

Why not fry your clutches and replace em latter if need be?

1. have the PITA factor of a trans rebuild is getting the darn thing down and back in.....this is something you do when you swap converters
2. I dont want to fy clutches and send clutch material through my trans and possibly into my brand new converter.
3. I dont want to have to drop the trans twice if I can help it. 1 sucks bad enough.

If my trans came down I would have a set of every stock clutch sitting and ready to go in(and take em back if I dont need em) and inspect each clutch. I would also do some of the "free" things that just take a bit of time and knowledge to do to improve lubrication and such. I would also have the oportuninty to bump up my line pressure a hair(and play with cut back as well) No sense leaving a trans together IMO with possible 1/2 worn clutches and not doing little free things that dont hurt when the thing is down anyway.
