Got home from work tonight keyed off doors locked everything out accept the red lights on the back of the cab. I messed with the headlight switch, pulled a couple fuses and the only thing I could get to kill it was disconnecting the battery. From the center out the light has 2 inner white, those are off, the next 2 red are stuck on and the outer reds are off.

hrmmmm...I didn't. I'll try that tonight when I get home.

I thought a little more about this...none of the other brake lights were on so the brake switch I wouldn't think would be the culprit.

There are two switches on the brake pedal. One for main brake lights and the other for third brake light. It is possible that is where the problem is. The third brake light circuit is also the one used for the brake signal to brake controllers and has its own separate fuse.. If you have a brake controller that can be disconnected such as is possible with Prodigy controllers try that.

Pulled the break pedal up no difference. I yanked the chmsl fuse under hood and it killed the light but the fuse of course was good. I have no idea what else this is for brake lights running lights blinkers and reverse lights are all still on.

Do you have an aftermarket electric brake controller? If so, it has failed internally, or has become ungrounded.

Any other wiring add-ons?

What's throwing me off here is that the brake lights (all three) do not work with the ignition OFF, on 2007.5 and newer trucks.

You also describe 6 bulbs in the CHMSL/ Cargo lamp assy. Could it be an aftermarket lamp assy? IIRC, 12V is up there all the time, and, the BCM (Body Control Module) switches on the ground to activate the brake lamps.

It's the factory controller.

When they did the fifth wheel hitch I had them wire a receptical in the side of the bed liner?

It's the factory lamp and by 6 lights I mean 6 bulbs. I may have had the order wrong in a previous post I'm staring at it right now. Center is big red 2 bulbs (this the one stuck on) next one surrounding that is the white lights that are controlled by the dimmer switch. The very outside is 1 more red on each side making 6 bulbs.

P.S. I effing hate electrical gremlins lol. Dropping the truck off at the dealer sucks because I work before they open and don't get home till way after they close that leaves me without a vehicle for day.

Possible the switch at the brake is bad. Have you unplugged the connection to it to see if it turn off. It may go out but but still may not be the issue. You have to check both switch points to see if one is closed. If both open then it is further down the line after the switch. Possible the trailer harness is wired wrong or there is a rub through in the wire that is shorting it to ground.

So, your saying the brake has to separate contacts on it? One activates the rear lamps and one for the cab? I thought 1 brake switch would activate a relay and send juice from there on.

Hey Mccall mentioned that the light being on with key out was strange, none of the other brake lights are on nor do they come on with the key out.

I'm going to pull the receptacle in the bed out and see if a wire fell out or something goofy there and report back.
