Forgot to lower the tailgate when I pulled out from under my 16,000# fiver the other day. Dragged the sucker about 10 feet before I noticed. (Duramax doesn't know its there.) Bent the tailgate out 17 inches from straight and IT DIDN'T OPEN! Had to take the truck to a shop to get the tailgate off. (Now in their dumpster.)

Awesome gate. No photos--too embrassed. New V shaped fiver gate on order.

Oh well, life is full of these petty aggrevations.:D

did it pull the sides in as well?

 makes wanna' order mine sooner than later..........

I always take mine off and lay it in the bed behind the hitch before hooking up to the 5er. It rides just fine there and when we get to the campground and unhooked, I put it back on and slide my Retrax cover over the bed for a little security for those little things that alway need to be hauled around in the bed.

At least you remembered to put the landing gear down. I saw one dropped on the bed one time.

Usually you can kick it back in to get it straight enough to get off the trailer and get it down.

It sucks though. Done it twice now.

a friend of mine was supposed to be buying a gm with the duramax from someone. before he got it they hooked to a fiver and didnt lock the hitch. when they stopped it came into the cab and put the hitch in the center console. for some reason he didnt want the truck anymore:)

Kind of like filling up with GAS, seems like everyone does that ONCE.:

That one I have never done.

Has anyone else noticed that the tailgate sticks up higher than the bed, so if you load something heavy you have to remove the tailgate to haul it or get it out?

Good story but not possible. If not latched as soon they pulled forward it would have fallen on the bed.

sounds like the opposite of mine. mine comes unlatched whenever it feels like it

I've had two of those.

My step father did the same thing with his 01 (8.1 though), but it didn't bend it too much... It happens.

I wondered about the story too. My theory is they were hauling too big a fiver, and went up a hill, realized it came disconnected. When they hit the brakes it went forward and down.
