Hi guys. My 1995 Chevy C1500 pickup, with the 5.7 TBI/5 speed stick, idles great and revs up fine, BUT when I'm driving it, doesn't matter which gear, just so the gas pedal is down about a quarter of an inch and at about 1500 rpm, it'll start "sputtering." If I hold the gas pedal where it's at and throw it in neutral, it sounds like it has a verrrrrrry big lopey camshaft in it. I've fooled many people into thinking that it does. BUT it is very inconvenient if I'm not trying to be cool and just drive, because the truck will buck around. If I let off the throttle, it won't quit, but instead idle perfectly after a few seconds. And if I down-shift to raise the RPMs it'll run fine, so it's only that one point in the throttle. I don't get it!!!
When it does it, it smells like it's running richer than rich. Could it be the O2 sensor? I have only one to change if that is the case (on the drivers side exhaust manifold, single wire). The reason why I am thinking that it's the O2 is because my air/fuel gauge reads in the normal zone, not the rich zone when it's running obviously very rich.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated!
Thanks

ohhh p.s. the check engine light has not come on at all while driving, and I know that it does work since it comes on temporarily as a test when I turn the key on to start the truck.
