Hi, new here.
Just bought a 99' f-250 td and have had some misfires and stalls. No apparent reason and it starts up again right away.
The check engine light came on once after a misfire, but then reset when I restarted the truck.
Is this a real common thing for these engines? Seems like from what I have read so far, its a bit of a game where you keep throwing money at it until it is fixed...
any ideas?

Sounds like a CPS. Sometimes they'll set a code, sometimes not.

Check out http://www.thedieselstop.com

Go into the forums (you'll need to register to post) and look for the '99-up Superduty section. They have it broken down into different parts. Go into the 7.3 liter engine and drivetrain section and ask there. Lot of guys there should give a good answer.

http://www.thedieselgarage.com is another good site. It's for all 3 brands, but I'd say most of the people on there are Ford guys. You could ask there also.

Oh, I just looked, I see you are at the garage. Good choice!!

Cam sensor common, does the tac fall to zero when it stalls with the engine still turning? I had this same failure in mine.
