Im using a racor 2 micron filter with the clear bowl its been allmost a year on the same filter with no issues (although the tank and pickup are new) i can see little water bubbles covering the bottom of the bowl not enough to use the drain valve.
I think i will replace it this fall and cut open the old filter just to see if its black or not.

 

A 5 -10m is a pretty good filter as that is what a DB2 can eat and survive and a 2m is nicer but it will plug as fast as the junk comes out of your tank.

Good clean tanks and fuel and the fuel nozzle when you fill up, then a 2m is over kill and an unnecessary expense if they are more expensive than a 10m IMO

 

On my ds4 ip. I didnt want to post filter talk in the 6.5 section since I abandoned the ffm. I think ill just go with the 10 micron setup and go from there.

what lift pump? i suggest post and fore psi gauges. my cat filter was too much for a regular lift pump with clean cold diesel. total no go with blended fuels. i have the carter styles tandem and a hard time with 50 50 oil so i went to a loud azz gear pump....but need a regulator to keep the psi down at the ip.


like said above, decent fuel and decent tank conditions, the fliter should last a fair amount of time....regular service intervals at least.

its nice to have a visible prefilter though and 50 mic is about as small as i would want as restriction and starvation can be hard to diagnose on the suction side of the lift pump. i usually use a reg gasser vac/psi guage to keep an eye on it.

Its a 6.5 Lift pump (Delphi) for a 93 hd truck. Basic 10-15 psi framerail pump. No sock and I cleaned the tank out well. Am looking at post psi gauges but havent pulled the trigger yet on that. I use a 2 micron Racor and have suffered no problems as of yet. I do want to get something like a 50 micron pre filter on it.

 

I have been running a 2 micron Racor for over two years with no issues. I have a fuel pressure guage on the output with Holly Red Head electric fuel pump on frame. I get 7 PSI when fuel is cold and 9-11 when it gets warm out. I figured I run it till the pressure drops on hard acceleration to below 5 PSI. Two years and still waiting....

 

hard to get the true ratings on the ones i looked at...anybody using the "RACOR SNAPP 23106-02 FUEL FILTER WATER SEPARATOR 2 MICRON" it has f clip style ends but snaps in and out of place for servicing if you loop your lines to allow for movement. its also a element filter which could be an issue compared to a regular spin on filter.

the pressure drop across my 2 mic cat filters is enormous running blended fuels but straight diesel works pretty good. i am just running my 10 micron oil filters which are intended to be the pre filter for the cat filter at the moment, though i need to go to the type on the engine so i only need to buy two styles of filters.

with clean fuel i dont see where there would be many issues with a 2 mic setup....at least you would know sooner then later if you get a bad load of fuel.

Ok guys got this 2 micron Parker Racor filter installed today. Its mounts up to the WIX 24770 remote base. The filter I selected is the same 1-14 Thread as the wix base. This is a diesel rated fuel/ was separator. Had done some research to make certain I bought the correct bowl for the filter. I was seeing kits with filter bowl and mount for $120 but none had the two inlet and two outlet ports I wanted to mount a T valve and Pressure gauge other than the wix. The gasket the Racor came with was too wide for the base so i swapped the wix gasket onto it and it fit perfectly. Im going to have to measure the gasket and buy some for future filter changes. Seeing a 1psi pressure drop right now at idle but still have to test drive it. Next I want to buy a Racor WIF sensor to install on the bowl and hopefully wire into my stock wiring where the FFM was. Ill have to look at some wiring diagrams for this not sure if its possible. I still have the FFM pigtails and im assuming the two wire one is the sensor and three wire the heater which im not too interested in adding.

FYI. The two wire connector is for the fuel heater, basically an ignition controlled 12vt power source and ground. The OEM fuel heater is self regulated, self controlled read no PCM input.
The three wire connector is for the WIF sensor.. and is often compatible with other simular set ups but do double check with the aftermarket manufacturer..

 

Just test drove the truck a while and im unable to dip below 3psi on hard acceleration which is nice because with that wix 12 micron filter I was seeing as low as 1 and sometimes just under. That wix only had 3,000 miles on it so id say the Racor has better flow but only time will tell. :thumb:

My goal here was to run a better filter than the PITA FFM has to offer while not spending boat loads of dough and hopefully help visitors and members with part numbers. I did get a water sensor installed in this filter bowl today! Also for anyone wondering I did find out the gasket number to mount a racor filter to the wix base I used since the Racor gasket is too big. The gasket is Wix #15614
