I have a 94 6.5 turbo Diesel. I had to replace the blown head gaskets and cracked heads. I had it ruuning for about 2 hours then it dropped in RPMs then came back up. I thought I would drive it I got about 100 feet and I had no reponse from the throttle at all the engine would idle the turn off, I got it to restart about five times and now I cannot get it to start. I have noticed that I have a service throttle light soon coming on and my glow plug light in the dash is not coming on when the service throttle light comes on, but when the service throttle light doe not come on the glow plug light will. I have tried to check for codes but do not get any. I was told the injector pump is bad, but it was working fine before I parked it, and hear my lift pump coming on and I am getting fuel throught the filter. I have been beating my head agaisnt the wall for about a month now can some one help me.

Welcome to the forum, butch.............

Run thru the diagnostic procedures in FAQ's, post your results to give us a general idea of what's good or bad.

There's more info up there about no-start, stalling, etc - could be the PMD, but let's check whatcha got, first.

Chances are since you've just done head work, you may have a pinched/chaffed wire.

A common problem is ground wires.

There are some of them on the right intake manifold toward the back. Make sure one did not fall behind the motor.

I have checked all the grounds I had six of them in all they all look good.
Something I did forget to include was that when I first started it up after installing the new head was that I had a tremendous amount of white smoke. it lasted for about 45 minutes. I thought that it was just from the cold weather and condensation since this truck has been sitting for about 2 months now.

I think I will check the glow plugs next does any one know of an easy way to get to them on the right side of the engine? I think I am going to check to see if I am getting fuel out of the Injector pump to the injectors as well

What I have checked today

I just checked all the low plugs they check out fine they were all at 0.01 or 0.000 I then loosened the first injector on the driver side and cranked engin over. I got no fuel out of it. I then loosened the main fuel line to the injector pump. I saw fuel coming out before I could get it off. My understanding is the the PMD is what makes this injector pump work. if it is bad the injector pump will not pump fuel correct? Can the PMD have anything to doe with the glow plugs? M PMD is mounted on top of the intake or air intake manifold. I have read articles that this is not a very good place either. I does have the heat absorbent part on it as well, but I was reading that there is a wiring harness available so you can mount the PMD on a fender well or somewhere the heat will not get to is as bad.

can you steer me in the right direction?

Kennedy Diesel has an extension kit, highly recommend it, does not take long to install.
For the PMD, IIRC, there is a small black lead (ground) that must be connected to the pump. Also did you bleed all the air out of the lines. If not, have one person crank the engine and crack each line at the injector until fuel comes out and then retighten. I went through all this last year and was a PITA.
When I first got done, I had one line not tight enough, it would run, but after sitting for a while air got sucked into the lines/pump and would not restart.

You can read the service engine codes with a paper clip on a 94. See if you can pull those codes and post them here so maybe we have a chance to pin down what's up. Sounds maybe like a 5v problem somewhere in the wire harness if your STS light is on.

I tried this and when I put the paper clip in the A&B terminals the STS light come on and stays on When I turn the ignition off and take out the paper clip the STS comes on but goes off. the glow plug light is not lighting up at all. what am I doing wrong I see no codes

If you have no codes, your service engine light should blink a code 12 at least. If you are not getting that, is your service engine light working at all during the start/bulb check?

If your "service throttle light" is staying on, its probably cuz you left the paper clip in. This happened to me once before.

Sounds like a PCM problem for sure if you can't read codes.

It will always flash a 12 even if there are no codes stored.

blink - pause - blink blink - long pause - blink - pause - blink blink - long pause - blink - pause - blink blink

If it's not doing that you have PCM problems. Which could be wiring related.

You do have an SES light working?

Good news.

looks like you found the ground problem.

How cold is it there?

You could try it with the ECT sensor on the water outlet crossover unpluged.

Also you need to get a bulb in the SES light. Someone must have removed it or it's burnt.
