The 06 LLY and LBZ share the same cooling system , I have not had any problem with the LBZ and have not seen one post on a 06 LLY having a problem , I would not give it another thought .

The 2006 LLY will not overheat. It is 100% different then the 2004 & 2005 LLY that will overheat at the drop of a bucket. Now I am sure there is a way to overheat a 2006, but you would have to put a bag on the grille or something like that.
Your fine with a 2006.

Not if its like mine...

My 05 LLY would OH just looking at the trailer... I could overheat that sucker at will with 8k-10k# toyhauler. The fan would run full time on the freeways at 60mph. Biggest POS:mad: ...

BUT

As soon as I got 500 miles on my 06 LBZ, I hooked up the same trailer and did my best to OH it. It wasn't the typical 115* outside but it was 100*. I hit hill after hill after hill (grades between 6-8%). At times the truck was floored for over 5 minutes... The 06 cooling system seems to have a lot more reserve than the old LLY but after a few minutes the coolant temp will rise. What's different is that the fan is able to stop the temp rise and actually reverse it. However, my trany did get a little warm around 230* but it didn't stay there. Oh, the fan was off on the flats and the temps were "cool". Oh#2, the fan is much quiter than the POS on the 05 LLY. :ro)

Now, like the others have said, your 06 LLY has the same cooling system as the 06 LBZ. I wouldn't worry about it. :driver:

Hi, I was wondering if you can tell me how your fuel mileage is. I know this has nothing to do with your thread, but it may help me out as I am trying to decide between the '06 lly or the '05 lly.

Duramax,
First I don't think you will have overheating problems with the LBZ. Mine ran through 110* Nevada and Arizona heat with 16,500lb fiver in tow and never went above 210* and it would only climb to 210 on the longest of hills and as soon as the fan kicked on it was back to 195* in about 15-30 seconds.
Itech 05LLY's fall into the overheat catagory, the 06lly has all the cooling upgrades so the choice should be clear.

Stays Cool

I have an 06 LBZ, I put a slotted grill cover on it to keep the bugs out of the cooling system. My first outing pulling my 5th wheel camper (about 9,000lbs) I took some tools with me so I could take out the grill cover if it got hot. It never did!!!! I was totally impressed. I've towed the camper in the mountains and in the flatlands and have no problems.

Go with the 06 if you plan to tow with it. My 06 LLY has been a no problem motor for towing compared to the 05 I had. The 06 has never overheated the motor or the tranny. I tow more that most on here sometimes 36,000lbs (truck and load) and never had the tranny above 200 or the coolant over 220. As one other post noted all my 05 had to do to overheat the motor was look at the load.
