I have searched a lot on all brands of programmers and always find people who are completely satisfied and ones that are not satisfied. Every time I decide to buy a particular one, another thread will pop up that has a lot of negative feed back on it. Is anyone satisfied with theirs, such as good shifting, no increased engine noise (rattling), more mpg and hp. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks. Ronnie

I think the reason you find mixed results is because all "programers" are one size fits all so some people will like it and others will not. the only way to please everyone is if everyone had a custome tune made to their liking. I think the only way to really garentee that you like your tune is to tune it yourself with efilive or have it custom tuned. I wish I could tell you what to buy but I cant with my superchips it sounded like stock and drove like stock i noticed 3-4 mpg gain after installing the bigger wheels and tires with the superchips and it shifted like stock in all levels except performance at full throttle

I'd be 100% happy with the Evo if the Economy mode improved mpg like they said it would. Other than that, it has great power and shifts good on lvls 1 & 2 haven't tried 3 yet.

100% happy with Hypertech. I run on level III all the time. I got about 2-3 mpg better than stock. shifts great empty and is exceptionally smooth when I tow.

I agree with carcrafter22. I have a flashpaq it pretty much seems almost stock. I could tell a slight difference in the hp and pick up. Shifting not really. MPG NO. I have talked with a few guys that have EFILIVE and they get alot better results. Mainly because they are getting custom tunes. Whether they paying for it or biulding it off the EFILIVE program. Alot of the guys on here have it and I think I have only seen a few complaints on it. Mostly getting it connected with their laptop. That is the next toy I'm getting.

I have a Bully Dog Power Pup. I am satisfied with it, I just noticed a little more ticking in the higher settings. I picked up about 3 mpg on the performance setting. I have been hearing good things about the PPE Xcellerator, so I plan on trying that soon.

I've been using the PPE Xcelerator on tune "2"for 6 months now and it produces Xcellent power. I get about 1 mpg better economy, i.e. 17.5 (winter) and 21 (summer). When first programming it, the shifts were not good, but have improved significantly since the truck re-learned the new power settings. Also, the latest program revison for the tuner addresses this issue I am told and plan on sending it in for that update. Thus far I am 100% satisfied with the power output... Here's a story to support this...

A couple days ago a VW jetta was behind me and decided he didn't want to be behind me anymore, I guess he didn't like big trucks. He proceeds to pull up next to me at the next stop light. The light turns green and I'm xcelerating normaly, he apparently didn't like being next to me either. I hear his engine rev and he starts to pull away. I thought hmmm - NO, so I rolled on the throttle to about 3/4, heard the turbo spool, (we're running about 40mph at this point), and the truck went sideways, you know, spinning the tires. I let off a bit and the truck leaped ahead of him and I beat him by about 4 or 5 truck lengths up to 110mph. Needless to say I'm sold on the PPE.

Oh yeah, I have never thrown an engine code either.

Hypertech

I have used my hypertech handheld for about 4 months now and can say nothing but good about the product. It has giving a huge improvement over stock. I have towed as much as 14k of salt with my programmer stuck on level three. showed a gain of almost 2mpg when i was able to change it to level one or two. But there customer sevice "SUCKS" I send my programmer in almost two months ago and just now am supposed to get it back. They would not send me a shipping lable. Said I had to pay. okay no big deal 6 bucks. I spoke with one of there reps almost every day for the past two months trying to get this issue figured out, and everytime i got the answer "well our tech has it on the bench now, but he is at lunch" yea yea yea "ill leave him a msg and have him let me kno, then ill call you" heard that so many times its not even funny. finally get to the point this week they say they fixed it preloaded another tuner and are gonna send it back. but no overnight so i have it for this weekend. I went as far as talking to their regional rep and he was like well you can pay the cost of shipping. explained to him the whole situation and he had no care in the world.
Now I work in retail bsns and am in management. Customer service popped to my head. If i was in his situation I would be more than happy to pay the extra couple bucks to get it to him. I mean heck I did have his programmer for almost 60 days. when i told him personally it would only be max 10 bsns days. Dealing with them has been nothing but a headache and I can say I will never recomend them nor buy anything else from them .
With some ppl you only get one chance, you screw that up and they go somewhere else. Im usually i easy going, well mannered calm cooled fella.
But wow a regional rep treating a customer like crap. so after all that venting. anyone wanna buy a programmer. (I almost wanna crush it into a million little pieces and send it back) just take the loss and call it even.
Like i said though program itself not to bad. I have nothing to compare it to other than stock so i cant say a whole lot.

I agree, mileage gains are minimal, but thats not why I bought a programmer. Very happy with the predator.

I added a Superchips tuner to my truck back in 2004...the main reason was that I was not happy with my truck towing our 8,200lb 5th wheel trailer...our truck would always "hunt" for the right gear when towing.

Any little throttle increase and the truck would downshift...into 4th at high RPM's then settle down, then shift back into 5th.

With the Superchips on level # 1 the truck no longer does that anymore...you can feel the truck "load up' but instead of downshifting the truck keeps pulling (without MPH loss)

On level #2 ...I get all the added benefits stated above plus I find that I get @ 1-2 MPG better, and the truck accelerates much stronger in lower PRM's

Happy.....definate Yes !! Excellent bang for the buck investment !!

Handheld companies have to create a tune to cover all Drivers, all vehicle applications and all vehicle modifications. The main reason you'll find great feedback from some customers and poor feedback from others is how the tune interacts with the driving style and driver expectations which is very personal to the user, as well as the vehicle mods and vehicle application.

Chances are if you're an Average Joe, with Average vehicle mods, and driving conditions you'll get a good result from your chosen handheld. But once you start to add specialist mods and have specific application needs, or a driving style a little left of centre it becomes alot trickier for the handheld to be everything to everyone. Many members who have specific needs choose custom tuning, or choose EFILive to do the tuning themselves.

Cheers

Ive run my hypertech 3 for about 3500 miles now on lev 3 and it works great, once in a great while I'll get a wierd shift but for 282.00 it was the best thing I have done to the truck. I tow on lev 3 with no probs, I did an "economy run" a couple times and pulled 19-20mpgs at 60 mph but when I punch it it doesn't get any worse than stock, avg mileage is usually 13-15 80% city-20% hwy and I have a very heavy foot. It does throw off a little smoke too. I have 10,450 miles on it now and I need new rear tires already.........thats the downside.

I ran the Edge with Attitude for about 4K miles. The mileage seemed to be about the same no matter what setting it was on. I took it off and went with the PPE Hot+2 and pillar gauges. I changed mostly to get rid of the speed limiter and correct for the larger tires...something the EDGE does not do. The Edge corrects the tires, but only reads on the monitor correctly, not the factory gauge cluster. I have the PPE currently on the 160HP tune which is all my Transgo JR upgrade is about to handle. The driveabilty is very good. I did not know if I would miss the adjust on the fly setting that the EDGE offers over having to live with the tune installed. So far I have not. I plan on getting a Suncoast V in the next few months as well as some fuel system upgrades so I can load up the 350HP and see what that is all about. I have not had a good highway run for mileage, but will do 1K next week down to the Valley and back.
