I got a little carried away on the title, but seriously I am looking to get a warn 16.5ti and bumper. Which 16.5 ti accomodation bumper looks best in your opinion. BTW, it's going on my '07 K3500 classic. Any suggestions or pics?

Thanks!

So your question is really which bumper - not which winch?

I mounted my winch using a front mounted trailer hitch. That way I can use it in front, behind, or on someone else's truck if needed.

Tom S. - yeah, I guess it's more of a bumper question, a bumper ta accomodate the 16.5ti.

schulte, I need a serious winch. It may not turn out to be my best option but I have a heavy skidsteer that I've stuck 4 times in 4 months. I thought about a rear winch for the SS, but that is more weight and extra length. So I am hoping if I stick it again, it will be accessible to my truck to winch it out.

What about wireless remotes for the 16.5ti. Can I get one and how far is the reception. Unless someone is in the SS, it will not move. So I would need to be in the SS and winching myself with my truck.

Timmy2500, I've seen the road armor in magazines and like it. I also like fab fours, but I'll have to see if they make one for a Chevy.

Thanks

the warn 16.5ti is a bad mother! i plan on mounting one on my truck once i finally get my ranchhand bumper in...been on backorder for about 7 weeks now, just becuase im having the hd winch option put on which is up to the warn 16.5ti.

i currently own a warn 9.5ti and had it multimount which mounts to your reciever and was nice becuase u could move it front or rear and i kept it in my tool box to save in lenght. but in most cases wasnt even enough power for my 1500. its on hard mounted on my jeep and is plenty for that light jeep. i think for a 3500 diesel a 12k is the least winch to buy but the 16.5 will work well.

as for bumpers, almost all your big name brands have an option for it, including ranchhand, roadarmor, warn, arb, buckstop, and many more.

btw the largest winch to mount multimount is the 9.5ti, at least for warn, heard something about milemarker making one on a 12k but im not all fond of milemarker, some of my friends havent had much luck with the solenoids.

I concur for anyone thinking they're going to pull their 3/4 or 1 ton truck out.... a 8 or 9k winch is barely enough to do the job with a mild case of "stuckitis".

Mile markers work pretty good, just make sure you mount the solonoids in a good spot. The 16.5 isn't anything to be sneezed at, for sure.

As for wireless remotes, your options are limited and will have to be handwired in. Warn doesn't recommend wireless controls for their winches, and it would have to be interfaced into either the winch control plug, or onto the solonoid circuitry... hope you're handy with a soldering iron ;)

I would look into one of the RC controls from AW Direct, they're beefy and meant for industrial applications vs some of the cheap, car keyfob style remotes you can find elsewhere.

Milemarker also makes a hydralic winch. The advantage to it is you can work it continuously and not have to wait for it to cool down like an electric. That may make more sense for your application. :)

x2 on the AWdirect. AWdirect is good people. They're not cheap, ferrsure, but they've got the good stuff. I could spend paycheck after paycheck in their catalog...

you got you ss stuck 4 times in 4 months???? I think rather than buying a winch I would re-evaluate where I put my ss...i'm not sure if a 16.5 is going to do anymore than drag your truck closer to the stuck skid steer...but thats just my .02

i think a 9.5 is big enough for my truck i have had it down to the frame a number of times and it has got me out every time the only time it couldn't get me out is when i was trying to pull a F-350 and my truck at the same time the ford was hydro locked in mud above the tires and my truck to the frame it was the only way to get to the truck was to get my truck in the stuff and to get the F-350 out a Kodiak had to use both 15K winches to get him out i was still able to get myself out after a full day of winching it is all in how you hook up and if you use a snatch block i keep a couple in my truck just in case. Almost every bumper company makes a bumper that will handle any winch you want to put in it i like the buckstop and the road armor ones the best

A hydrolic winch would be my choice. They have gobs of power, don't drain your battery, and are usually lighter and smaller for the same power. they also work fine under water. They might even be cheaper than the really large 5hp electric ones. I'm drooling over the new ARB winch bumper for GM 2500. My bro has one for his landcruiser and It's real nice quality.

Warn has a Warning Notice on their website about the compatibility of using the currently available Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices with a WARN Winch.

For WARN Self-Recovery winches, the currently available Radio/Wireless Remote Control devices clearly disable the WARN backup (redundant) winch switching control functions. This is because the Radio/Wireless Remote Control Devices utilizes three (3) control wires while the WARN remote switch utilizes five (5) control wires. The five (5) control wires are critical to proper function.
