while changing the water pump I was looking around on my engine and noticed that I can't find a PMD on further examination and after checking stanadyne's website I do believe I have a DB- pump and not a DS. how do I know for sure, what #s am I looking for on the ID tag

Thanks all

You might have an early 94 that had not gone electronic yet, how about a pic of it, do you have a mechanical throttle linkage that runs to the throttle pedal (move the throttle pedal and links on IP move???), if so there is your answer, DS pumps are fly by wire nothing moves unless the computer says so

Ok here is the best pic I got of the pump. Also in the second pic the vacuum line from the EGR is pinched off...Why would someone do that and does it have anything to do with the fact that I can move my WG rod by hand at an idle?

Thanks again.

No EGR, makes life easier on the engine... kinda like keeping it from becoming a chain smoker in the intake. ;)

If you have a vacuum wastegate, you shouldn't be able to move the wastegate actuator at idle. It should have a solid hold on keeping the WG shut.

If you have a 97+ cooling system, the previous owner maybe have been a savvy owner, maybe even an internet board member. There are a few secrets floating around about improvements, found mostly on the net, and certainly NOT found at a dealer. There is a resource out there for converting your DS4 pump back to a DB2 pump, and I'm wondering if you may have such a vehicle. Mechanical linkage to the accelerator pedal is the key. If you have a convert - you may have a combination of a mechanical linkage with the fly-by-wire pedal in place still. Pics of the pedal maybe easier. Do you have a service throttle soon light on the dash board during cranking/bulb check?

looks mechanical in the first picture, right side rear of the pump. looks like a cam of sorts with a adjustment screw.

That there is a mechanical IP, for your WG issue we need more pics of the engine bay, I suspect no vac at the WG actuator, you need to do WG diagnostics, one of the mechnical guys will have to weigh in on how the mechanical IP'd trucks work the WG & EGR. My 94 GM book does not cover mechanical IPs

Think I have a combo pedal will post a pic in about an hour, dishes are waiting to be done. also it is a '94 truck and I just put a '97 Water pump on it yesterday cash flow is limited so the T-Stat housing is still out there on the to-do list.

Thanks

Your converted truck uses a stand-alone TCM for the 4L80E - the TCS is that module on the passenger-side of the IP.

You won't have a SES.

Vacuum was bypassed because you have no PCM to control the wastegate....or the FSD....or the EGR....or the Cruise....or the glow plugs....or th....but, you get my drift, right?

Look on the back of the IP for the Stanadyne spec label, post the color of that label, and the DB2-xxx-xxxx number, thereon

You have the dreaded 6.2 pump in 6.5 wool - should have been DB2-831-4911'ish.

The -829 means 8 cylinder head, with 0.29" plunger bore - should have 0.310" bores.

But, it'll getcha to Wal-Mart and back.
