What are the tell tale signs that injectors are getting bad? My fuel economy has gone down, power seems to be down some & she smokes quite bad on cold startup. When I first start her up when it's cold & not plugged in there is a large puff of black smoke & then white smoke until she warms up. When I plug her in I still get some black smoke but not as much but still get some white. I expect some smoke on startup but not this much.

I don't know when the injectors were done last, if ever or the glow plugs for that matter. I know that the fuel economy & power loss could be because of the winter diesel but the smoke isn't.

How miles have you put on the truck?

Could pull some injectors from the drivers side and have them tested. If any are leaking, dripping, poor spray, then susptect the rest are the same pick up a set and change'm out.

The 6.5 injectors are rated for 100K miles.

I noticed same type of symtoms. Changed mine, so far, its started without being plugged in. Lowest temps so far, 18 to 20F.
