What's the best battery for a 2001 Polaris 500 Sportsman 4x4 ATV?

I just got this last year. Don't know much about them. I would guess there are higher and lower quality batteries available.

Does anybody have any suggestions for the best quality battery to buy?

The previous owner installed a new battery last Summer. Looked like he used the cheapest he could find or the first one he found.

Here is the best I found. I'm wide open to suggestions. I don't know anything about these batteries. Nor what a good price or brand is.

The Yuasa is a common brand. I have had good runs with those in the past.

I usually just go to the auto parts store or Walmart for their brand..

You can pay anywhere from 30-100 bucks depending on where you go..

Key with atv's is in the connections. A lower end battery will fail sooner if not being fully charged while in use. Ground is biggest downfall in all brands of ATV'S.

I like these Centech Item 62813 battery maintainers. They have a red light when charging and a green light when charged up.

Just leave them hooked up all the time. They come with a connector with eyelets that you can attach to the battery

My only fear in leaving them hooked up 24/7 is fire. Has anybody heard of that happening? Is it a major or minor concern?

I've had maintainers on all three four wheelers and my enclosed trailers for the past 5-6 years with no problems yet.

Get the highest cold cranking amp battery. I notice on my Honda they offer a optional battery for a wench. Has more cold cranking amps. Yuasa seems like a good battery.

I have a new issue - Probably should be a new thread.

The last time we ran the 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500, it over heated. We did not run it much or hard.

Could overfilling the radiator cause the high temp light to go on?

I filled the radiator, but did not check the book to see how full is full.

The hot temperature light came on.

The fan doesn't sound good - I definitely need a new fan. - but it was running.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a new thermostat?

Any other ideas on this issue?
