I'm putting together a set of tools to keep in the truck.

Looking for some input on what others have or consider essentials.
What are the common fastener sizes?
Other special tools or gadgets that you would include?
I searched a bit and did not find much.

Is everything metric? My last truck was 1/2 and 1/2.

Here's what I have now.

1/2" ratchet - 15,18 what other sizes to include?
3/8" ratchet - 10,12,13, what else?
1/4" ratchet - 8,10,
Extensions for each
Wrenches - what to include?
10" adjustable
Channel locks
Pliers
Needle Nose
Stripper/crimpers - various connectors
Screwdrivers-3 sizes of each
Nitril Gorves, Mechanix gloves

Tire Gauge

Fuel Filter
Oil
Dex 6
Fuel treatment

Thanks for your input.

All of the above along with a blanket in a sealed bag, penetrating oil, more tools, incl crowbars and 2 ton floor jack, wood blocks and 10lb fire extinguisher (3 lb in back seat). I have about everything I would need for a piece of farm equip breakdown so I could get it working again or back to the shop.

I like every thing you have + what has been suggested and I would add some TORQS sockets and HEX head sockets. All metric these days.

Also include at least a 2 Cell Maglight in the truck or tool box. Might wanna spend the extra $ and get a 3watt LED conversion bulb. I've got one of those in my 2 cell mag I keep in my blazer.

I am blessed with two nice big under bed tool boxes. I have a '06 c6500 with a 21' car carrier bed. I TOW. I am all over the state from barrow to homer. I have enought tools supplies and parts to repair just about anything, it would take a catastrofic(sp?) failure to keep me from making it home.

Don't forget the;

Manual! I usually try to have some of every type of fluid, maybe a serpentine belt, a flare or two, jumper cables, a couple of health bars and for road trips a pillow, good book and a good pair of walking shoes. Plus all the above posts.:D

Pretty much all of the above along with a 6 ton bottle jack and a piece of 2X10 because the factory jack is really unstable especially if you have to use it on the side of the road where it may not reach because of uneven ground.

Not to hijack the thread, but it seems like I'm always giving someone a jump. I was looking for a quick disconnect plug to hardwire to the battery like you see on electric forklifts. I've seen this on some heavy equipment service trucks and thought it would be a good idea, but I can't find the plugs anywhere. Any thoughts?

Besides jumper cables, I carry one of those portable power jump start/air compressor/light kits. It is rated at 450CCA, and makes it easy to help jump start cars without having to get under the hood of my truck.
