To add to what Mac said,
I just sold a '01 with 34,000 miles on it. Look for low miles, they are out there. You can get a lot of input from how the truck looks inside and under the hood. Owner pride over the long run shows. Good maintance records are important (dealer serviced USUALLY means that the work really did get done and at the miles noted). Pay to have the truck diagnosed by a dealer or an independent testing outfit before you buy it. The guy who bought mine (a friend) bought an extended warranty from GM before he rolled over 36,000.
