Sorry for the dumb question....but what is this black bracket/support/holder looking thing attached underneath the truck bed (located mid-width at the front of the bed, and just to the side of the fuel tank sender unit) ? It looks like it is made to mate with something perhaps the size of a car battery and strong like a tray to support weight. Any idea what it is and is for ?

Really ?
No offense intended, but are you sure, or is your answer a best guess?

There aren't any heat sources nearby and it doesn't cover anything that looks like it needs protection. It has clips built into it and a big bolt on the end sticking up into nothing. If I had to guess, I'd think it was something for a 5th wheel mount, or a battery holder for a trailer or something like that. It doesn't have any of the features I would associate with a heat shield.

Again, no offence intended. I'm just puzzled.
Thanks very much for replying

The body and some mounts are used in different platforms.Could be a heat shield for a gasser PU.

Looks like that would be where the fuel cooler would be mounted, but assume the 05 still has one.?.
