Hi,

Im still a new when it comes to all this stuff. My truck is a 2006 2500HD with the LBZ. It has a little over 40,000 miles on it. Now i want to do some things to try to get better fuel economy out of the thing. Can't anyone help me out here? What is the first things thatt in need to do? The truck is still bone stock as of right now. I am running 285's on it.

Any help would be great!

What about banks products? I was looking around online and see that they have kits you can buy that has everything.. banks any good?

Id like for a mileage increase.. but some more power and smoke is always good also. lol

heres the site for more details.

Basicly the economy is the budget / entry level tuner. it competes with the others such as bully dog / hypertech / and diablo. It comes with 3 levels of tuning and is not upgradeable.

The next step up is the standard then hot then hot + 2.

For someone just flat out lookign for reliable performance and better economy - the economy level tuners is the right choice.

Can put this on my stock truck? or do i need to upgrade the intake and exhaust also?

It can go on a stock truck. Now for even better MPG, let the truck breath.....intake and exhaust.

the best thing you can do is drive with as light foot, then get a mild tuner. I have an edge EVO only and I get consistent 20 mpg tanks commuting. I took a trip yesterday 160 miles at 65 with the ac on, then the way back on divided highways with traffic lights 55-60 mph, and O got 21.5.........its all in how you drive

I couldn't agree more

You hit the nail on the head IMHO

I don't think you truely will ever save the $$$$ amount of a new intake and exhast in the fuel savings. If it gains you 1MPG better you will be lucky. If you are running a mild tune there is no need, the stock intake is very adequate for that. If you want to increase the breathing punch out the cat and do a muffler delete. It won't cost $10 and will give you a better bang for the $$$$$$$

BTW 20 MPG highway all the time at 67mph. 16.7 at 72 and 14.5 at 90. (hand calc) Been there done that, won't waste my money.

If you are going to do any serious tunes, by all means do as mentioned.

jimmyjones, the DIC is way off with a programer. You will get better fuel mileage the bigger the tune, but you have to hand calculate to get an accurate figure:)

I find the bigger tunes seem to do much better, best portland to Seattle & back 72 mph 22.6 hand calculated. I was trying to see what it would do & controlled my right foot. Not as much fun but if you drive smart you can help your average a lot.

I have a question for those that have removed the "kitty" and muffler. Is it much louder inside and do you now have the dreadful diesel drone??? I don't care what it sounds like outside but I can't stand a noisy interior...

I didn't remove the cat, I punched its guts out with a 3 foot crowbar. I just did a pipe replacement for my muffler. No real noise dff inside unless you are hammering on it with the windows down. Then you really hear the turbo spool. Still over all quieter than my 7.3 was at idle:D

Would it be cheaper just to buy a muffler from some where and take it to a shop to have it put on? instead of buying a complete system? I would like for my truck to flow better but i don't want it very loud. I think running a straight pipe would get to be to loud all the time.

I know i am going to end up doing something... im just doing some home work before i dive off into something.

Running a straight pipe from the cat back on mine. Not much louder at all than stock. Little deeper and throatier tone in the back by the tip but otherwise virtually no difference inside.

Thanks guys, I think that I'm finally getting "pushed" over the edge to go ahead and do it... As for the 7.3 thing thats for sure as the last team that I was on had a 96 7.3 with some type of exhaust that drove me crazy when I had to drive it...

If you want to get rid of your cat and muffler go ahead and buy a 4 or 5" exauhst. Believe me i've already done both. When i got my truck i took it to the muffler shop and had the cat and muffler removed and straight pipes welded in. It took like 3hrs and cost 180 bucks.... cuz the both were at weird angles and was difficult for them to weld in. After all that you still have a 3.5" exauhst system wich doesn't help a whole lot on egt's. Now I have a magnaflow 5" ss Turbo back and i'm happy with it. At WOT it's still quieter than my buddy's 24 valve ideling...haha. Even when i had the muffler off it's still quiet at idle only a hiss from the turbo, only at WOT throttle is when you hear a difference.
