There has been a lot of talk lately about who sells the WAP 'quick heat' glow plugs....

The ones I have installed in my truck were bought from indusa....

Here is a link to WAP's webpage indicating who sells their plugs...you will notice that SS Diesel makes the list...

No problems yet (knocks on wood)......and I live in one of the harshest climates out there for diesel rigs (as you very well know).....the GP override I installed lets them heat up those extra few seconds to get a nice clean start......

I tried some in my 6.5 twice, a little over a year for both sets, went back to AC delcos and never changed them again.

I had all round bad experience with those unfortunately. All started with shipping. Man UPS sure nails us Canucks w/ those brokerage fees and stuff. I got the set of 8 from SS diesel for $60.00 US plus ~$10 US for shipping (or so i thought). UPS gets them to my place while i'm at work. They left a note on the door telling me i owe them money. After a half hours drive to the edmonton UPS distribution center (they absolutely would not deliver outside the noon-2pm time window so i had to pick them up) and $30 US later, I had my plugs. Total: $100 plus diesel fuel for driving.

I installed 5 of them. 2 on the pass side had fused terminal connectors and i couldn't unplug the old ones. I could have busted them off but didn't have the material to replace the connectors that night. Needed truck back in service so said the heck with them. I don't know why i didn't replace the far back one (pass side). Good thing i didn't.

Now, all the plugs i took out (9G) were in great shape. No swelling etc. Plugged them into 12V and glowed red after a couple seconds. All 5 tested about 1.3-1.6 ohms.

Well, 10 months later when fall returned, really bad starting. Worse then usual. I suspected glows. Tested the 5 i put in and 2 were dead (infinite resistance IIRC). I had the old 9Gs so i put em' back in. Started much better. Still using them today. My starting still sucks so out come the original injectors when i get time.

Ya I dont really have anything great to say about them either other than the price, in total they were about $80-90 cheaper than the 60gs, then again the WAP's also only lasted me about 4 months....

Did you say they were $80 cheaper than the 60G's.

That would make them free. Free is good.

Interesting, from the WAP website:

>Our defective rate last year was .00007%, that is 7 pieces per million. <

>WAP, Inc. is a subsidiary of Shares, Inc., a private not-for-profit agency that provides services and programs for people with disabilities in three central Indiana counties, Shelby, Han****, and Rush. As a part of its scope, Shares, Inc. provides custom packaging, small parts assembly, inspection, and salvage/repair services to a broad range of customers, including WAP, Inc.<

i just put in new glows ac60's price 152.00 canadian at napa. had a friend put them in and he did the rear passenger side from the top of the engine. layed out on the motor and reached down. did the two in the middle from the wheelwell. he worked on 6.5's at a dealership. shoulda heard his complaint when he did his 1st duramax ip. 9 hours, book says 4 so was paid 4. he complained and after arguing with the service manager was paid 5 more hours. 2nd pump took 7 hours and they only ever paid 4 hours. 3rd job went home sick. 4th time insisted on being paid for any hours spent on it or quit. worx for public transit now.

Kennedy sells "quick-heats" - $80 US per set
1 yr replacement warranty

Heath sells "Sure starts" = $109 US per set
4 yr replacement warranty

SSDiesel sells "Instant Heats" = $69US per set
1 yr replacement, max 2 plugs per set

DSG Canada sells "DSG Glow Plugs(?)" = $167.28 CDN per set (ouch)
1 yr replacement warranty

Those Autozone AC60Gs you mentioned are looking better all the time, David.
I'm gonna go check out local parts guys, but I may be sending you a money order...

SSdiesel and Kennedy appear to sell the WAP plugs. Not sure about Heath and DSG, but Heath's 4-yr warranty looks better than either of the 1 yr warranties, or SSDiesel's 2-plug replacement limit ... what's with that???

I'm almost afraid to look and see what my local guys are asking... but I will.

Heck, I even went over and looked on A1Customs' website, but they don't appear to handle glowplugs. Maybe they arent something you can make in a basement.

(uh-oh... Did I say that out loud? My inside voice got to the outside again)

I had the WAP fast heats that I bought from SSDiesel. I put them in last year. They worked great... for 4 months. Then, one after another, 6 out of the 8 burned out.

I replaced them with Delco 60G's, and one year later, all 8 are still working great.

I never sent the bad WAP's back to SSDiesel for warranty replacement, but probably should have. At the time, there was no replacement limit for the WAP's. Interesting that he implemented a replacement cap of 2 per set. I don't think he would have implemented that cap unless he was seeing a high return rate on them. Walt was saying it was probably my glow plug controller that was prematurely burning them out. I would agree with him if my 60G's burnt out too, but they haven't.

Needless to say, I'm not a big proponent of the WAP's. Looks like I'm not the only one.
