6.2 Filters/Parts

My little brother just got 6.2L 1989 GMC Jimmy. I’m trying to help him out and keep him on the road. I did a search and couldn’t come up with much, but what are his options for online vendors (fuel filters, air filters and other misc parts)? Would he be better off at the local parts store?

Also is there any general consensus on particular brands for the filters.

Thanks for any input.

I think there are some vendors on here that sell some stuff for the 6.2... I don't remember who, though.

As far as the filters go, for stock stuff just go to the auto parts store. There are many nice aftermarket fuel filters that you can buy, Racor and Goldenrod being the two that stick in my mind (although Goldenrod is more for WVO setups). Air filters... Well, the most well known is probably the K&N... I think there may be better ones out there, though.

There are lots of little modifications that can be done to improve these trucks using cheap, generic parts. Manual glow plug controls... Fast idle switches... Various different primer bulb setups... Electric fuel pumps... Geardrive starters... Self-limiting glow plugs... Upgraded starter relays... You name it, there's probably a modification for it...

try fleetguard (made by cummins) or baldwin filters. they are the ones the OTR big rigs use.

i have mixed feelings about K&N for filters. i would actually go with a wix or whatever napa was stocking before i went K&N.
