I'm putting a reman complete drop-in engine in my 99 Suburban. The only mod I have at this point is a K&N filter.
Of course I'm on a budget, whatever that means:eek:: . But I figured I should probably upgrade to the bigger fan, PMD heat sink, and at least the 2 gauge set (EGT & Boost).

I have somewhat of a unique situation, in bringing this truck to Haiti. The temperatures are in the low 90's to 105-110 degrees year round. The city has plenty of hills but the roads are so rough it's tough to break 30mph. I'll be doing a lot of slow city driving, basically think of it as slow trail riding in the US,:) any suggestions on the PMD heat sink? I've read a bunch of opinions here, and I'm wondering what would be best in low speed, low power demand situations.

Again, I'm not looking for power increases, and I won't be towing any loads, but will have the A/C on all the time with little "ram" air hitting the grill.

Thanks for the help!

ps-if anyone wants to donate an engine or mods to a worthy cause, my arms are open!:D
Actually, if you are interested in why in the world someone would move their family to Haiti, there is a link to our webpage on my profile page or you can drop me a PM or email.

Make sure that 'reman' has the dual t-stat crossover and the HO waterpump, which your '99 had, oem.

Dual 180deg Robertshaw t-stats

The DMax fan would help, and a lower-temp fan clutch

Replace the crunched down-pipe

For slow low-speed driving you'll want to add -

an external trans cooler with it's own t-stat controlled fan

a power-steering cooler to manage increased steering and hydro-boost temps

a larger engine oil cooler - if you have the internal heat exchanger in the radiator cool-tank, plumb the external cooler first, then to the internal job - helps to lower cool-tank temps

FSD outside the engine bay, of course.

I would drop the K & N filter in favor of a stock paper unit. Your 99 should have had the round cylindrical filter, which easily outflows the demands of a near stock 6.5TD and is a MAJOR improvement over the previous flat panel filters. Is it possible that this K&N contributed to the reman engine...?

IMHO I might suggest looking at using the twin electric cooling fan mod. They could be set up to always be on high ( set ON temp to 160F ). You would always have max air flowing accross the radiator, AC, Oil trans cooler ect regardless of engine RPM or vehicle speed. On high these fans can put out like 5500+ CFM. Flex-a-lite I believe makes a custom one for 6.5 suburbans.
