I emailed Racor about news they were releasing an updated OEM filter for the Duramax. Here is thier reply:


"the new version will just be a longer can. should be out with the 04 model."


Wrote back to see if this was on the LLY engine or all 04 models.

He replyed back with:


"they are due to be built in december, i do not know the model number." Must be the new LLY engine.

He also said it would be too long for pre LLY engines. Someone could make some money by machining a spacer between the stock hook up and the engine.

I wonder if it's just a plain filter change or the complete head. Needless to say I'm intrigued as to what this new filter will be. A larger cannister? A new filter head? Even egads a better filter?


Anyhow, depending how grossly this thing may change I'm sure someone will find a way to bolt it on to our 'old engines'. Too many resourceful people here.

thats an easy solution.. just space up the three bolts that hold the filter head to the valve cover. A light tweak on the heater hose and viola!
