My truck is going to the dealer for a few miscellaneous items tomorrow. I'm gonna try to get this new (thermostatically controlled I believe) block heater cord installed. If not I'll have to trick the truck into throwing a code and return to the dealer.

I'm just curious as to why you want the new cord? All it does is keep the block heater from turning on unless it is below 0 outside.

Many of us like the original cord so that we can have the instant heat in the cab when we start it.

I'd rather get the reflash rather than the cord

I agree that I like to be able to use the heater at whatever temperature that I want. I didn't set a code this morning, but did last weekend. It doesn't come on until I restart after the trip and only takes a couple of minutes to clear. I don't know if the code didn't come on becasue it was cloder or if becasue I set the timer to come on sooner so it was on longer. Any case no code today!

I need to get back to the dealer for the reflash and will make sure that I tell them no new cord. They still need to fix the program for my mirrors from a year ago.

Since you have asked I will tell you.

I have yet to plug in the truck as most state it may not even be necessary. But in the event I do and the temperature is hovering around the acceptable range why not let a new "smart" cord do its job. Now others and yourself may feel different and hey thats ok with me. Personally one less code and dealer trip is just fine in my book. Oh yeah I kinda like the winter anyway. :D

It also may not be ''necessary'' to have a prostate exam either, but we should all do it.As a diesel heavyequipment owner-operator for 33 years, trust me it's better to use it than not.Why would'nt you? Saves your battery, starter, engine from wear and tear, possible you might have a no-start if cold enough, instant heat in the cab--all good things. As for the ''smart'' cord,I'd call it something else if just you and I were talking--It's GM's way of half-assing something because they have'nt figured out a better solution yet.If you just keep it plugged in for 4 hours or more with the original cord at 0 or warmer, you won't throw a code.

No,zero or warmer---DM owners are only having problems with codes when they plug in above 0 when they only are plugged in for app. 4 hours or less.I said it right. And just for clarity--of course you want it plugged in below 0--this is where GM in the manual is saying it's OK to use.
