Has anyone bought one of the many transmission rebuild videos that are available online and ebay? The tranny in my GMC is recently rebuilt so don't have to worry about it. I do have an 87 Ford F250 diesel 4x4 with C6 auto that needs to be rebuilt. The truck is rusted out so bad that it isn't worth paying someone $1000-$1500 to remove, rebuild and reinstall the C6. I see that the rebuild kits are $50-$100. I'm assuming that's not including any major parts internally that might need to be replaced that aren't normally replaced. I have another C6 from a gas truck to use for parts if needed. Just looking to save some money and learn more about how stuff works at the same time. Thanks for any input.

Turbo 400 video

Hi I bought the turbo 400 rebuild video, and I was impressed. I have been working on gas engines for 20 years..fords, gm, chrysler etc but I have never touched a transmission before. After watching the video 3 times I figured what the heck and threw the tranny on a nice clean large table in the basement after draining the fluid 90%. You wont get all the fluid out until complete dissasembly(clutchpacks etc). If you have mechanical ability, and patience, you will rebuild it succesfully and have no problem. A few tools you will need are a good torque wrench, a Lip seal installer(you can use a feeler guage carefully in place of it) Don't skimp on the rebuild kit get a good master kit. After rebuilding mine, seeing how easy it was(turbo 400 is pretty easy not sure about yours) I would not hesitate for one second to rebuild another one. Soak the clutch plates for at least a half hour or more and use plenty of assembly lube(petroleum jelly). I have had zero problems. Good luck

Try it... There's really nothing inside these automatics and if you are willing to spend the money to buy the parts they need they are pretty easy to fix. With a video it shouldn't be difficult.

He said" lip seal" .......Okay I know. But I think I would watch that Like I was a kid watching construction workers pouring concrete at a new house and dozing.
I just want to take things apart and be able to put them back together and work later. :D Video would be great .

it sounds like a great idea if you can pull it off.
but bear in mind that a rebuild should only cost $450 US anyway and you should be able to remove and install yourself.
