I read the sticky on the Transgo jr vs full Transgo but still have some questions.

I can't afford to drop my tranny and go through the entire thing (at least right now) but want to beef it up a little.

How much benefit am I going to get with just the Transgo Jr kit? Would anyone suggest just buying the full kit and installing the parts that can be changed with the tranny in the truck until I can do the full blown deal?

I tow 11k with an Edge on level 2, have a PPE boost valve, exhaust and intake. I don't think I'm in too much danger of roasting the tranny right now but plan on putting a lift on the truck in the next year or so.

I know a tranny upgrade is in the future with a lift and bigger tires, towing etc. I just need something to hold me over until later. Is this way a viable option? What other way is suggested?

With the 5 spd ally in order to install the transgo kit you will have to pull the trans. Don't think there is any way around that. The jr kit will not work in the 5 spd, since some of the parts that are needed in the 5 spd are already in the 6 spd ally. Hope that helps.

Yes, you can do just what you've asked and I know several who have done it that way. Buy the full Transgo Kit then just install the valvebody modifications until you can afford the whole thing. You will only get part of the benifit now but it does help. We stock both the full kit as well as the Jr.

That sounds like the plan then. What kind of benefit will I be seeing with only the partial kit installed? What should it make my truck drive/shift like?

On another note, are the clutches not included in the full Transgo kit? And for the moderate power I will be throwing at the tranny, will stock Allison clutches be okay to replace the most likely burnt ones?

I'm in the same boat. I can't drop the whole tranny right now, but with the recent addition of a predator I think I'm best off doing atleast something to the tranny.

My understanding is that the valve body modification part of the transgo kist will increase the fluid pressure against the clutches, allowing it to hold more power. I'm not sure what the rest of transgo kit does though.

Can anyone confirm my assumption on the valve body mod, and explain the rest? Also everyone says its better than nothing, but if just doing this part of the transgo kit am I closer to 25, 50, or 75% of the total capacity of the full kit?

What the trim valve install only will do is firm up the shifts and increase the holding capacity of the clutchs. What it will not do is correct the problem area in the C2 clutch. If you take the power and do nothing for it you will hurt the transmission for sure and by adding the trim valves alone you will reduce that chance.
As far as clutchs go I use OEM Allison clutch in everything we test. I have seen just as many burned Alto clutchs as I have OEM clutchs. We have run over 600 RwHp with stock clutchs. Idaho Rob ran all last season on stock clutchs with a crewcab and twin turbo's with many 11 second passes.

Go for it!

I did and it is night and day difference. Don't think it will take everything but it you will notice a big difference from a standstill through third gear. I never stay on it into the 4-5 shift. 100,000 miles and going strong.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the problem with C2? I have the transgo install instructions in front of me and i see what is being done as far as the orfices. But what does that fix?

The holding capacity of C2 is not enough for increased power. The hole you drill in the piston along with the new springs supplied in the kit greatly increase it's holding ability. Allison did these same basic modifications in the 2006 model year so that's why the Jr. kit was made.

I installed my Transgo Jr. about 2 weeks ago and I agree "it is a night and day difference." The shifts are short and crisp. I only run a Predator on 65 and have a 4" MBRP Cat-Back and don't plan on anything else. I just wanted a little something for the tranny. The way I see it is Bully Dog makes a similar product and claims that it is all you need to handle some extra power, so I did just that except I used the Transgo Jr.

how involed is it to install te whole Transgo kit into a 5spd? I understand you gotta pull the whole tranny... no problem... but how much do you need to pull apart?

I just did the Trango Jr on my 5spd and it is a pretty noticeable difference. I'm glad I took the time to do it, needed to change the internal filter and do fluid change anyway, so it made sense to do it now.

Install is straightforward. Between the sticky at the beginning of this section and the Transgo instructions, it is fairly simple. Nothing special needed.

The shifts are now firm and quick, nothing harsh, just firmed up. I think it will be good for what I have and towing like I do.

Now when I go to a bigger turbo and a EFI live tune, then I will be looking at the full Transgo and a new TC. But for now, this is a great inexpensive upgrade to help prolong my tranny life.

How about just the valve body mods and a converter. What would something like that hold up to? I just want to run the crazy larry program. Also, when you ghuys say the trans has to be taken apart, how apart? I'll work on anything except a transmission. THEY SCARE THE SH!T OUT OF ME!!!!!!!!!
