I replaced my trans. filter this weekend, now the pan is leaking. I was wondering if I should have just used permatex instead of the rubber gasket in the kit. So much for preventative maintenance, should have just left well enough alone.

Whenever doing gastkets i just use the black goop, seals great and is resisitant to everything

Did you keep the OEM gasket? If so it's re-useable. I never use the ones that come with the filter. I've change the filter on my trans about every 40-50,000 miles and use the OEM gasket every time with no problems.

no the gasket is gone. I'm going to have to try permatex I guess what a pita .

Dealer sells new permanent rubber gasket separate.

Get a gasket, permatex will just be a major PITA next time you change it. Also make sure the gasket is on the pan right, once when I changed the fluid one side of the gasket fell into the pan and I didn't notice.
