Just replaced spin on filter and was a little dirty around the magnet. Kind of a metalic grey..wasnt bad just had some on there. Was wondering if this is normal (Like the magnet deteriorating a little) or if its a prob. Havent changed in awhile and only second time ever :. Trtans runs and shifts fine....had pressure solinoid replaced in march so fluid is on the fresh side. Fluid that came out is pristine.

I would worry if there were chunks or small pieces. Some wear is normal. If you are really worried,Try and cut it open and see what is in there.

I noticed exactly the same thing today. It's the third filter in 90k miles; just wondering if the grey film is normal.

Guys, the spin on filter needs changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles at a minimum. They are cheap and easy to change, not jacks required and if you pre fill the new one, you do not need to add any fluid to the truck at all. This is the easiest and best maintainence we can do to our trucks.

DO IT!
