Can you post a signature? What year truck do you have? I know that the '01-'03 had a programmable feature in the ECM and all you have to do is add a switch (amongst some wiring from the ECM) as long as you have factory cruise control.
Check out Kennedy's website www.kennedydiesel.com under tech tips for Duramax and you can find the install procedures for this.
I'm installing it on my truck Monday to help it warm up quicker.

In that case, I don't know about high idle and if the truck had anything in the ECM from factory that can be added on without going and buying another aftermarket kit.

Ruffy,

I have an '07 Classic LBZ and it has the high idle feature. to activate it, all you have to do is:

1) Turn the ignition to RUN without starting the engine.
2) Press and hold the brake pedal down.
3) Press the accelerator to the floor and release 3 times within 8 seconds.
4) Release the brake.

Once you do this, your DIC should read "High Idle On" or something like that. To turn it off, just follow the same steps above. This information was also in my Duramax Supplement to the Owner's manual. The following link also describes the process in detail. It's for an '04 but as far as I know is the same for the 06 and 07 Classic (at least it worked on mine). jk

You stated on how to start high idle incorrectly. What you stated above will reset engine oil life, thank you very much:(

It should say:

Turn the Ignition ON with the engine OFF
Depress the accelerator pedel to the floor and hold down.
While the accelerator pedal is depressed, depress the brake pedal 3 times in less than 8 seconds.

Release the accelerator pedal.
Start the engine.

Should have read the URL first.....

John,

You are correct. My bad. It is as it says in the link posted. Guess I wasn't thinking when I wrote it. I apologize for the confusion.

ff trujillo,

It is as John Armstrong stated. Again, sorry for confusing you. As far as how it works, it works great. In the cold mornings, I usually go out and start the truck about 10 min before i leave. In 10 min it is warm and the heater is blasting. if the temp is above freezing or when the engine temp gets high enough it will automatically shut off.

So what you are saying is that the high idle on the LBZ motors is temperature regulated to bring it up to "operating" temperature more quickly?

Hopefully the rigs with the PTO option can override that so they can be able to vary engine speed for PTO powered accessories.

All,

Just to ensure complete clarity, I am posting the entire instructions from the original link I posted. I wrote the instructions incorrectly the first time.

Manual High Idle System Description
The diesel engine has a high idle system to improve the warm-up time of the engine in cold weather conditions. This system allows the engine control module (ECM) to increase the idle speed above the normal calibrated value.

The ECM increases the idle speed using the following adjustments:

The fuel injection timing is changed.
The fuel injection quantity is changed.
The turbocharger vane position is commanded closed. the vane position will be farther closed than any other normal operating condition.

The instrument panel will indicate the high idle system is active one of two ways:

The Driver Information Center (DIC) will indicate an active high idle system on Light Duty Trucks.
An indicator lamp will flash on medium duty trucks.

High Idle Speed Enable and Disable
To enable or disable the high idle system perform the following procedure:

Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
Depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold down.
While the accelerator pedal is depressed, depress the brake pedal 3 times in less than 8 seconds.

Release the accelerator pedal.
Start the engine.

When the procedure is followed the engine idle speed will slowly increased to the calibrated high idle speed. This is 1200 RPM for Light duty, and 1500 RPM for medium duty trucks.

The idle speed will return to normal if any of the following conditions occur:

There is brake, clutch, or throttle input from the driver.
The automatic transmission is shifted out of Park or Neutral.
The air temperature is more than 0 °C (32 °F).
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is more than 68 °C (154 °F) The vehicle speed exceeds 0 MPH (0 km/h).

The high idle system will reactivate automatically when the following conditions occur:

The engine has been idling for more than 30 seconds.
The transmission is placed in Park or Neutral.
The vehicle speed is 0 MPH (0 km/h).
The ambient air temperature is less than 0 °C (32 °F).
The ECT is less than 68 °C (154 °F)
The brake, clutch and throttle pedals are not depressed.

Hopefully no one reset their oil life indicator due to my first post... jk

Resetting my oil life percent for was no big deal cause I base changing oil by mileage.

I sorta figured you were onto something new and neat. :) I have steering controls which turns the high idle on or off. Keeping in mind the high idle only works in cold weather. Here in southeast Texas I have only seen mine work a couple times because it does not get that cold here.
