I'm running a 69 jeep pickup that I rebuilt with a small block 400, and now I can see the writing on the wall. 400+ hp has been fun, but 12 mpg of premium gas takes all the money that could be doing other cool things. (like rent) I have been looking for a donor truck with a 6.5T to put on those new GM mounts, but they seem to be rare as hens teeth. Trans is a NV4500 5 spd, and those 13-leaf springs will probably carry most anything, but I don't know dimesions for most engines. What else could be a fair option and still fit under the hood? Hope to stay as mechanical as possible (too many computers spoil the engine compartment) and under $3000. Any serious advice is most appreciated.

Keep track of your classifieds, you will find one sooner or later. Around here when the diesel engine begins to have serious problems the owner just yanks the engine out and drops in a 350ci in its place. Alot of the time the reman 350 is cheaper than fixing the diesel and it bolts right in.
