Sometimes the light that looks like a padlock flashes after the glow light goes off, then it won't start. If I wait 10 minutes then it starts. This happens cold or warm.

Today I noticed that the padlock light comes on for several minutes then goes out while driving.

I'm thinking a trip to the dealer is in order.

Any thoughts?

It's a problem with the Passlock security system.

Could be a bad ignition switch or the security module.

If the truck dosen't see the "correct" key when you try to start it, it will lock up the computer for 10 minutes and you have to wait before it will fire up.

Usually the padlock will stay on steady when this happens so I'm not sure about the flashing part.

I had a similar problem with my S-10. It was because I never used the key fob to unlock the truck, and wasn't turning the key in the door far enough to hit the sensor, just far enough to unlock it. The solution was indeed to cycle the locks with the button, as stated above.

Perhaps the cold isn't helping either, keeping sluggish parts from moving as far as they should.

Do you use your key in the door or just the fob?

Thanks for the replies.

The dealer had to replace the Passlock sensor. I guess that is the same as the Passkey module. It was around $300.
