Terrible gas mileage

I have a 2003 dually one ton crew cab. Loaded truck camper, horse trailer the truck has always averaged about 10.5 MPG. Empty on the highway and around town when new we got around 16 MPG. Now with 45,000 miles, the truck dosen't do better than 12.8 MPG (about the last 9 months) around town or on the highway empty. I have had it at two different dealers and they can't find anything wrong. A friend of mine brought a GM tech tool over and it shows injectors and everything else within specs. Any ideas?

Well, other than an obvious injector problem, let's see, a stuck or sluggish waste gate. Leaking hose from intake air cooler. A dirty MAF. tire size change that
you are not accounting for on the odometer. My $.02

also check not so obvious things like a hanging parking brake, tire inflation, air cleaner, fuel leaks..

also, I assume you live inthe desert, and the last 9 months have been, oh, I don't know , HOT!!!.

MINE has been the same way with temps up to 112 degrees. with the bout of cooler weather here, I have noticed it going back up though

btw how does one check out the waste gate???

Check the linkage to the waste gate for free travel. You can move the actuator linkage by hand with engine off and check for binding. While you're back at the turbo look for oil or coolant leaks, etc. If you have a boost gauge you can
just watch for predicable and smooth operation around the boost limit.
Around here we get mice nesting back there. The mice don't survive, but the
nuts and junk can cause trouble.
