I might as well do this.......

I would love to hear from those who had or still have the Superchips flashpak installed. I'm very interested in this one, but just have a couple of questions about it.

with a stock exhaust (no cat though), do I have to worry about EGTs? if so, at any setting or just the highest HP setting?

what type of a difference should I expect from running this compared to stock?

any worries with the trans?

I've spoke to a few knowledgable people on this, but just want to confirm a few things beforeI spend the money. I'm not looking to build a racecar, just looking for a little more power and mileage. I'll be towing from time to time, but only about 8K at the most. about 90% of that towing will be on flatland (here in the midwest).

I've just heard many horror stories about this and that going wrong so I just want to make sure I'm being safe with this small mod. this is my first diesel so I don't want to screw it up. I've done a ton of reading on here, but there are so many opinions on different programmers that I want to see specifically about this one.

thanks in advance!

Do not buy a Superchips if you want to run it in Perfromance mode. Many users, including myself are experiencing issues with shifting from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. It basically falls on its face when shifting. Superchips customer service has danced around the issue and has not been very responsive in resolving the issue. You can read more on the following threads. If it weren't for this issue I would be happy with the product.

Definetly no cat, mine plugged up right solid after about 500 miles. Hi perf setting definetly puts you back in your seat. Although fuel mileage hasen't really improved but I drive like a *******. I payed 150 on ebay and it's worth every penny.

I never had any problems with the Superchips tuner I used and I ran the performance tune 90% of the time but it's the 2705 and not the flashpak. I never had any shifting problems, overheating problems, tranny limps or anything but I did pay attention to my driving to be sure not to hurt the tranny. I currently have it for sale in the Market Place. The only reason I'm selling is becuase I decided to give the Predator a try and I need money to buy some gauges. Check it out if you are interested.

superchips

Ive had my superchips programmer since november. I get the best fuel milage in the tow setting now that it is freezing around here. before the cold set in the tow performance setting had the best fuel economy not to mention a noticable power dif. I only ran on the highest setting a few times, but it wil definetly pin you back. I cant really comment on the EGT's because i have a 4" turbo back exhaust installed. Feel free to ask any other questions

thanks for the replies, it's appreciated.

I decided to go another route. I have someone who is going to "tune" the truck for me and give me 2 different settings. a tow mode and play mode will be used (something like 60hp & 100hp), that way I can switch on the fly and not worry about plugging it in to change a setting.

I'll also be adding the 4" MRBP exhaust so it should be fun when done.

thanks again

sure,

Brayden Fleece of Fleece Performance Engineering (pretty sure that's his company name) will be doing it for me. we've been friends for several years so I trust him and he's very knowledgable with the d-max and the allison.

price, can't say, but I'm sure he'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have about that. ;)

he's on this board from time to time and you should be able to find him in the supporting vendors section.

Here is another comment about the shifting issues, it totally rebuffs the drive it 1/2 throttle then 3/4 throttle so it can learn, or am I missing something?

Peoples problems with the shifting has to do with the trans computers learning the new power properly.

We do not have ANY control over the transmission, this tranny has a computer that senses torque and will adjust accordingly. This is as simple driving the vehicle within the first 30+miles easy and no hard accells or wide open throttle punches within this time.

I would tune and let it learn, we have had products for the D-maxs since 2002.

yep, I agree. after having it done (as I mentioned in another thread), it drove great on the way home and has been ever since. it's got lots of power (ended up with 2 tunes 60hp/105hp) in hot mode and really moves now.

Brayden took care of me and his customer service is awesome (he did this on a sunday). I'll be back to have him do the trans and then play a little more with some extra HP :D
