I have basically a turbo back system I am thinking about removing my muffler and putting a straight pipe in. for any of you LBZ owners what does it sound like ? I tried to find a sound bite but could not find one. Thanks Nate

Diesel Power Mag

Check out Diesel Power magazine recent issue - February 2007. They have a section where the compare the two. It is pretty interesting what they said. It sounds like turbo back is really not that much better, maybe a little more power.

I heard a LBZ that I am pretty sure it was straight piped....it sounded like a jet engine when accellerating...it was pretty cool. It didn't have much of a rumble, just that sweet turbo sound.

I have heard a few LBZ's run without cats and mufflers and if you have ever heard a straight piped LLY, they sound very similar in my opinion. Tons of whistle on your way up the rpm range. There is a nice deep rumble until you hit about 2300 rpm then she starts to cackle pretty darn loud! Nothing more awesome sounding though than a D-Max cackle! If you get on the throttle really good its just an awesome sound thats hard to explain, but its a sound no gasser will ever make! Hope that helps a little bit. CHRIS

It's not that loud. I think mine was quieter straight piped than with my MBRP at cruising speeds (up to about 80). The only time it got loud was when you held 2200-2400 for awhile like when pulling hills with a trailer.
