I have a 2005 Chevy 2500 diesel and need to replace the power steering gear box. I'm told there is 2 different ones for this model. How do I tell which one I need and will I need any special tools for this

The only difference I know of is the spline count on the shaft that goes to the pitman arm. AFAIK, all the Duramax trucks had 3 spline.

A decent pickle fork and/or a pitman arm puller. Strap the steering wheel straight. The frame bolts are 21mm IIRC. I'd plan on doing the lines as well for good measure.

You may want to/have to loosen the bolts on the steering box to get the pitman arm puller on the pitman arm and to get a wrench on the puller.
