Hello, this is my first posting to this form. I have a '01 chevy diesel, lately I have been having a problem when it gets cold. After a cold night I go out to start my truck to warm it up, the truck will start and then shuts off in a matter of a few seconds. I have to manually prime the fuel filter to get it started again. I have taken it to the local dealer and they can't tell me what is causing the problem. They want to change out parts on the fuel system to found out at my cost. I was wondering if anyone else is or had this problem and what is the solution to my problem? Thanks for any advice. Mike

First guess would be a leaking fuel filter housing....How long since you changed the filter?

My truck has done the same thing. It sounds like your fuel is jelling do to the cold temps. Put some additive in it and it should be alright. There has been a couple times were I have to give it a little gas for a little bit after it starts, but after that it runs great. I just repalced my filter 2,000 miles ago before I moved to Colorado.

Hello Everyone, I was going to work the other day and my service engine light came on. Call the dealer to take it in, I dropped it off and they called me telling me that a U-code came up, indicating a heater code, they said it was for the fuel filter housing, so I had them replaced the fuel filter housing figuring that would solved my problem with the cold mornings startng problem I was having. Short story, I'm still having trouble with cold mornings. They also found my positive terminal post was very corroded on the primary battery, so I had them clean and replaced the battery stud. So in the spring I will be looking at checking the fuel lines and connections to solve the problem. I will keep everyone informed of finds.
