I would try hooking cable 2 and cable 1 both on to the big battery post. And the starter wire (cable 3) on to the "S" post. None of my vehicles have anything hooked to the "R".

You do have the battery disconnected while you are monkeying around with the starter, right?

You NEED that third bolt to keep the starter from destroying the two main starter bolt hole threads. There are many 6.2 blocks out there with the starter motor threads stripped out. There are a bunch of threads around here on that subject.
