Starter Relocation

Is it possible to relocate the starter for a 93 Chevy C2500 6.5TD. I removed my windshield wiper reservoir and have that empty space there and thought I might be able to mount my start there and bolt it down on the driver side wheel hub. Thoughts?

Is your truck an automatic or manual transmission?
The starter is driven by gears. The gear will jump to engage the flywheel (a gear also) when the key is turn to crank.
So, if you need to create a mechanism to transfer the power when the gear is jumping to engage the flywheel, then you can move the starter somewhere else.
I am sure it is possible but I think this is more of a custom part so the price is probably will be more than the price of the truck.

Sorry, I use the word "jump" since I don't know how to describe it.

Leroy's kit is just using the starter in the same position but modifying the mounting bolt position in case the original bolts are not tight anymore.

Automatic
Do like some marine engines that have the starter bolted to the bell housing on the back side. Or chain drive like some old Studebakers had back in the day. Or belt drive like some old engines of long ago.

You should rig up a hand crank. That would be the best way to go.

Was thinking about relocating my injection pump to my glove box in the cab.....that way I could check on it while cruising down the highway.......

Might get lucky and score an old Breeze cartridge starter on ebay. That's a Wright 1820 cu. in. 9 cyl. radial that just got kicked over in the video. Should do a 6.5. Good luck finding the cartridges though.

I’ve always toyed with the idea of finding a way to mount a starter to an engine with a broken block like we sometimes commonly see on the 6.2 or 6.5.Many blocks could be salvaged if we could find a way to use for instance a different starter such as from a Deere 2020 or 6.9 diesel as an example with a two hole flange with a special made adapter plate of some sort. I’m sure something could be fabricated in the event a broken block couldn’t be repaired.

I have been toying with the idea of fixing two birds with one stone.... hear me out. If I got the proper size ring gear that mounted over the harmonic balancer I could mount the starter in FRONT and have it engage this way saving all the wasted space under the motor and of course making starter swaps a breeze from the front of the motor. This according to my calculations would help reseat the outer race on the diameter every time it is started so it would essentially self center and cancel out the negative vibes from the harmful diesel petrol that was put in there by you know who. THATS RIGHT, we all know we are talking about the petrol kingpins that are sabataging our motors every chance they will get. So pretty much add a ring gear on the harmonic balancer and then LOTS of RARE EARTH magnets . This part is essential as it will not truly engage with the elusive chakra of the 6.5l diety unless they are true rare earth.

I am working on a prototype for the last few years that is showing promise. Please for diagram I will share with youfor very small price. The last thing I am saving up to make perfect free energy 6.5l diesel is the incorporation of dilithium crystals which we all know are very costly. Please help me finish my projct. Don't listen to the MAN! It CAN be done!!!

I thought of the same thing as well a couple years ago but didn’t bother to pursue any further with it.Seems Leroy came up with a nice kit though.

I have an important work meeting in the morning and this is what I'm doing at 11pm.
Humm I see where I messed up. I wanted to add new technology onto this old motor, My mistake! I shouldve used real old tech like chakra 353mhz to truly channel the wireless starting. And batteries, Lithium-ion nah, Pink Himalayan sea salt crystals!
Hand crank is totally and completely wireless.
It is the latest thing in remote (outside the engine bay) starting technology.

Heh… any good machinist worth their salt should be able to cobble up a way to remote mount the motor. Install some universals, and shafts, link them over to the remote motor location…

let’s seee…. Build a mount plate, setup a bendix gear extension , manufacture some shafts, and joints, mount the brackets for them… shouldn’t cost more than $20K, sounds like a fun project…
Of course, then the starter, and the motor would need to be custom… likely could be made from disassembling the original starter, but idk…
